Huntkey Enterprise Group, a global professional power supply provider, has announced its latest X-TREME series of power supply, which contains 5 models: EN 450, GP 500, GP 550, APFC 600 and APFC 700. The Huntkey X-TREME series adopts active PFC and dual forward circuit for a high conversion efficiency of 80%, therefore saving power for users. It uses a 12cm fan, which can reduce heat and lower noise, leaving a silent environment.

The rich connectors of the power supply allow users to install several hard disks. With a long DC cable, the X-TREME series support dorsal line perfectly. The whole series lies in the middle and high power range and can meet the power needs of all graphic cards. The Huntkey X-TREME series of power supply supports all kinds of CPU and protects your system far away from blue screen. The multiple protections, including Over Current Protection, Over Voltage Protection, Over Power Protection and Short Circuit Protection, guarantee safety of your other components.

Features:
  • Power saving: 80% efficiency at typical load (50% load)
  • Silent: 12cm low noise intelligent temperature controlled fan
  • Support dorsal line: rich connectors and long DC cable
  • High reliability and built-in protection circuit: OVP, OCP, OPP & SCP
  • Support Intel and AMD dual-core and multi-core CPUs
  • Industrial grade protection for the PC system and hardware
  • The standby mode consumes less than 1W when +5VSB is less than 0.1A.
  • MTBF greater than or equal to100,000 hours
  • 100% Hi-Pot and burn-in tested

I googled Huntkey PSU and read where one of their series actually exploded if you tried to use the labeled watts. It was from 5 years ago though. Maybe they have improved.

Short of giving cancer to the user or exploding at any load you really have to be determent to get worst than that

Huntkey are one of those PSU manifacturers who insist to keep using low-grade components for many years

Haha, a switch for selecting input voltage. Seriously, things like that in 2015?

And yes, Huntkey is pure crap.

When a PSU lacks 80+ certification and got this wonderful "rated/peak" power output, I hear loud alarms.

This will probably end up at these shady PC builder stores.

Why anyone would buy a PSU other than a Seasonic is beyond me unless it's a relabeled Seasonic on sale or a reputable PSU maker offering something unique that you desire.

For those who don't know, you should read the PSU reviews at JonnyGuru and Hardware Secrets to see how a specific model PSU performs real world and if the components used are cut-rate or high quality. Otherwise you have no idea what so ever what you are buying even if it has a brand name you believe to be of good quality.

There are other decent PSUs that are not Seasonic OEM (like XFX). Antec, Zippy/Emacs (haven't seen one in a while), Silverstone, PCP&C, Enermax... hell, Rosewill, OCZ, Cooler Master and even Corsair make very good PSUs.

The only extra point is that Seasonic can be picked blind. So far every single Seasonic unit I've seen out there work flawlessly. Corsair and CM for example have VERY good units (AX and V for example) but they also have extreme shitty units (Like old CM EPP)

What's next? Is TPU going to start promoting fake Chinese flash drives and exploding SSDs? I like a good laugh as well as the next guy, but consider this; someone might see this "article" and actually go out and buy one! Think of the senseless destruction and loss of life and property that could result... http://semiaccurate.com/2013/07/18/innodisk-has-an-ssd-that-will-explode-on-command/
http://consumerist.com/2007/02/08/dell-laptop-burned-down-my-house/

This isn't news, it's simply a product announcement for a (sadly) legit company. TPU relays a few such messages through their news feed.

PS: By "Legit" I mean "will give you a PSU when paid." I didn't say it's a good PSU or won't burn down your house when used.

TPU's editors know they can skip these horrible PRs, they decide not to.

Would you want to filter the good product announcements from the shitty ones?

Furthermore, who gets to decide that? I see why they don't want to cross that line.
