Hi, I bought 2 used Sapphire R9 290x Reference model, but when they arrived I notice that they doesn´t have the bracket that I´ve been seeing in all the reviews out there from this model.

This is the model I bought:
http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=1227&pid=2085&psn=&lid=1&leg=0

Here´s a review of the card where the bracket is shown (min 3:15):

I contacted the seller from amazon and they said that all these model they received where the same without the bracket, I was not happy with that answer and keep looking, and when I lookup my GPUs with GPU-Z it redirects me to the "Sapphire Tri-X R9 290X OC" model from TechPowerUp DB.

Here is the link to the model that GPU-Z redirects me:
http://www.techpowerup.com/gpudb/b2707/sapphire-tri-x-r9-290x-oc.html

My question here is... does this reference model should redirect me to that Tri x R9 290x model?, because I started to think that they change the cooler from these cards and sell them to me like reference model, the thing is that I recevied all the accesories and box from the sapphiere reference card, so Im not sure about this, can some can help me?

Thanks!

The lookup feature is new and still has some issues. It will occasionally link to the wrong card. You can help out if you start GPU-Z with "-dump gpuz.xml" and report back with the numbers in the "subvendorid" and "subsysid" fields, so the DB maintainer @T4C Fantasy can fix it.

The reference model doesn't have a back plate that I'm aware of, I have only seen bare PCB's.
I believe the stock cooler helps stiffen the card to prevent sag.

Hi, thanks for the answer, I got the info:

<subsysid>E285</subsysid>
<subvendorid>174B</subvendorid>

@T4C Fantasy , do you think this is the problem?, thanks for the help!

The X shaped bracket should be on the back to secure the heatsink on to the chip, unless a different type of cooler is mounted.
If it is missing on your reference model I would worry about how it is secured.

Can you post a pic of how the PCB looks like from behind?

<subsysid>E285</subsysid>
<subvendorid>174B</subvendorid>

This points to Sapphire 290 and 290x, both Tri-X from what I found on the internet.

Here´s how my cards are, they doesnt have the X bracket that´s why I started to think something is wrong with my cards, they work ok, but if they are really Tri-X card I would like to talk to the seller so they can send me those coolers or give me back my money, because when I attempt to sell them (in the future) I dont want to get in troubles with anyone.

Its a lot of work to find all of the subvender and subsystem identifiers, so many of the database entries are incomplete. There are also some cards that share these identifiers making distinction via software impossible.

As for the the X-bracket, it's common for cards to vary slightly from release.

The Tri-X uses the same PCB as the reference design. Also, the metal X bracket isn't required, a lot of manufacturers secure the coolers with screws and springs, in fact almost all aftermarket coolers are secured this way. So I wouldn't be surprised if Sapphire is using the screw/spring method with their reference coolers as well.

Except that reference Sapphire does have it, and it def looks like it should be there... hell even a lineout (sorry for bad english, dunno if that's the word) is there where the bracket should be.

I dunno, it smells fishy to me

I'd ignore the fact it is missing, the bracket if in place would be sitting on components soldered in and across the marked area, so it appears the used the spring and screw method.

So what do you think I should do?, do you think they are really reference model?, I have also check the stickers and they match with the ones in the boxes (PN, SKU) but well they can be removed and paste, but at least they match...

Have you tried to contact Sapphire directly about this? They should be able to help.
