Best vpn to use?

A coworker of mine recently got a warning from his provider for of all things downloading the Hawaii 5.0 show. Lol. (Dunno maybe it is good. I shouldn't judge) He has asked me about vpn services and which is the best to use. Then by extension, which method of implementation is best used for the least impact on speeds and such.
Personally I have never used one so I don't know what to tell him.
Any information of a provider or method would be great. He has been on me for awhile now so I guess I should try to help.

You can use it by either installing the TAP driver client on your windows PC and connecting when you want, or using open source firmware on your home router, you can run it on your router protecting EVERYTHING behind your router.

I'm also using Private Internet Access. Very affordable and so far has been amazing and painless.

There are quite a few good options...buy PIA constantly reviews the best in my research.

So after he tells me how awesome P.i.a. is and how he is using a feed from Texas I got to thinking. would this not work for Hulu plus and Netflix. I went home last night and cancelled my unlocator sub and installed P.i.a. as well. It works as intended for Hulu and Netflix but now my Wifes Laptop and her cell wont connect to the wifi. Laptop sees the dlink signal but wont connect. Her phone says a.p. error.
I would think the router settings should be fine. Do I have to install it for each device? It is way cheaper at 40 u.s. a yr than unlocators 5 a month.

I, personal, installed PIA software on all PC(it is for smartphone ,too), but from what I understand, you can put on router , in this case you don't need to install the software on devices after router...

Well seeing as unlocator is based on DNS bouncing, I think you might have forgetten to uninstall (de-locate ) it on your wifes equipment. Sounds like she is being routed the their DNS servers, even though you don't have a subscription. Which would give the appearance she is not connected to the internet, since the DNS servers are rejecting her.

Ah! Makes sense. When I disconnect from P.i.a. the laptop and phone reconnected right away.

And the quick summary is yes, you will want to install PIA on all your devices and use it when you see fit.

Like I said in my previous post, there is the option of running it on your router. But this will be more of a rabbit hole approach as you will first need a supported router for open source firmware that has a nice VPN client (Asus MerlinWRT, DD-WRT, Tomato) and then configure the router to run using your PIA credentials. This method would be for the more tech savvy, that have $ to spend on a top shelf router as you will need mega CPU power, AND someone who won't mind having your internet speeds throttled while tunneling through VPN (Your router will be working hard).

Edit: So it would appear that P.i.a. service is blocked from accessing Hulu. even in the states. way around it? Use a dns switching program. Which I had with Unlocator. Back to the drawing board. Lol. At least my coworker can pirate his Hawaii 5.0 though.
As a side note. As I was playing around I thought I'd update the firmware for my d-link and when I try to d.l. the file it throws a bad i.p. warning at me and won't start the download. Tried the 3 latest firmware with same results. Shut off P.i.a. and voila. Hmmm. Is the world cracking down on anon browsing?
