This situation reminds us just how much our own stuff isn't under our control when it's cloud based and requires activation, where the company can just remove any product we have at will, by remote control. It's just so Big Brotherish and quite unpleasant.

In the old days, one would have bought their game on CD from wherever, in good faith and if it turned out not to be completely legit months later no one could take it away from them and that's as it should be in my opinion.

I haven't seen this message, but then I'm not surprised, since I buy all my games from either the Steam store or brand new from Amazon directly, no marketplace sellers, so it's 100% guaranteed legit. I'd be really pissed if I ever saw it, I can tell you.

Could these keys that were given away on TPU from people's Steam inventory perhaps have been revoked due to regional restrictions catching up with them afterwards? This would mean that they weren't illegitimate as such so Valve wouldn't be on such solid ground for revoking them.

@jboydgolfer dude I'm really sorry to hear you get nailed so badly by your son. What a gratuitous abuse of trust. :shadedshu:

There's no way he didn't know what he was doing. I would certainly have taken away the computer too and likely sanctioned him in other ways too, such as grounding him, perhaps.

i actually have a young son myself, so i've been planning for this kind of thing already - but there will always be a way for kids to sneak out a password or jump onto an already logged into device.

Pretty dodgy of them allowing in game purchases so easily when they know their users will be under-age.

It's weird that the Humble Bundle gift keys are getting revoked since you can give those away as gifts without cheating the system or anything.

edit: I think that the revoked keys might have been redeemed normally (by clicking the "Steam" button) and then the redeemed key was sent to the recipients. You're supposed to make it a gift beforehand and then send the gift link to the recipient.

automatically revoked as the payment for them was un-done. its to stop people say, using a stolen card and keeping the games anyway.

I've only had one game ever ring me to confirm a purchase on my Paypal account by my son.
Some games also have a monthly subscription which has to be cancelled even if you only want a one of purchase, nice way to catch you out and get your money.

Again...apologies to anyone experiencing issues stemming from the recent fraud on MY account. I am VERY slowly getting the money replaced. I told the bank the dates from which the unauthorised charges began and ended , they seem to have gotten quite a bit over zealous...hence all of this trouble with My giveaway titles...Please, PM me, and although I may not be able to replace the EXACT title You lost, I intend on making good one way or another....it would be great if I didnt have to figure out who was , or wasn't boned by this siuation, so If You could let ME know it would be a HUGE help.

Or I'll do a single LARGE giveaway in the future including those wronged, and make it up that way....dunno yet, but I'll do something.

P.S. -My son is 11, He IS greatly regretting His decision, and will for SOME time, He won't have access to a PC until ATLEAST next year, and inevitably I'll get My money back.

I didn't lose anything (I don't think) but this is still one of the best ideas in this thread.

That really sucks though, and I'm sorry to hear that happened. If you don't mind putting some work into it I would check what you got from the money he spent on the minecraft server. Mojang (people who make minecraft, now owned by Microsoft) updated their EULA to try and keep this from happening. No game-changing items can be sold for real money, only cosmetic. I'd read up on that, 'cause if that server is in violation of the EULA Mojang will have people on it like a rabid dog. Seriously, Mojang's law area can get a bit crazy when the EULA is violated, it's a scary thing.

I am sorry to hear that man @jboydgolfer and hope you will resolve everything soon. I think i won a game by you at some point but doesn't matter if I loose it it's not an issue what so ever. Now i won't tell you how to raise your children but I like the idea of showing him how difficult it is getting these money (not 4k since i guess even $400 would be difficult for a child). Problem is I don't know how that works with 11 year olds :confused:
