thanks for the suggestion, no i can't manually input, only allows a dropbox. Yes Gigabyte limited the voltage is what i figured... BUT i found a weird solution. I left my computer unplugged from the outlet overnight, and this morning every works fine again without changing anything. I feel like it may be a capacitor issue on my motherboard.
What power supply do you have? Can you do a dump of your Bios and upload it here, you will need to zip it to attach it to a post as the forum does not recognise rom files.

just FYI. i THINK it seems to be fixed by modifying an MSI 280x firmware which i AM able to increase the VDDC above 1200. i changed it to 1225 for both the 1200 one and 1144 one (why is it 1144 anyway?) , and also decrease memory clocks from default 1500mhz to 1425mhz.

and then flashing it onto my gigabyte 280x windforce oc rev 1

Hi

(why is it 1144 anyway?)
Use the VBE7 drop down menu to see power states for the vga card
Example
State 2 UVD.jpg

VDDC 1144 looks to be UVD power state [Universal Video Decode]

General Info - here

Note: this has no impact on 3D core clock speed

Hello, the past few days ive been searching through this post, but so far only partly successful on modifying bios. I have a Club 3d hd 7700 Ghz edition. I am already running with a modded bios which works fine. however some games will require some more power i think as im having some dips here and there. however my VRM : UP6266 is my voltage controller. the voltage control is grayed out in bve7. Is my VRM one of these regulators that are non software ones? so it cant be programmed?

so i tried to edit my bios in a hex editor, i successfully changed from 1.2 to 1.25 volts (it were the only numbers i changed 1200 to 1250, i opened this bios is bve 7 and it would read the correct voltage i set). so i gave it a shot. however when i flashed this rom my card would get stuck in idle mode and 0,8 volts, no matter the load. ( i did reset ccc and msi, also tried to set it to the clocks i wanted in both ccc and msi, even tried different voltage controls/ force constant voltage / disabled low profiles in msi, robooting between each setting, but nothing would help. also ccc would show that my core and memory clocks were zero and unable to set anything. only msi would read the proper clocks) what did go wrong here? 1.25 is not in its table? did i also had to alter the signal with a corresponding number? or my VRM simply cant be programmed..? would there still be a way to properly hex my stock bios?

Also ive been thinking to maybe flash the card with another bios (XFX hd 7700 black edition OC).This one seems to have the same memory types/voltages/slightly higher performance clocks etc but the VRM used is different in this bios. any problems foreseen here?

U guys dont have a original bios of the club 3d Ghz edition ( i found one club 3d bios but it was not the same) so here you go. i also added my hexed version and the bios i was thinking of using:

im quite a noob when it comes to this so sorry if i asked questions that should have bin clear to me!!

thanks everyone for reading!

thanks for the bios editor, works great but is there a possibility to handle vram voltage with the editor?
my powercolor hd 7970 flashed to ghz edition works fine at 1050/1500 at 1081/1500 mV, would be great if I could also change ram voltage in bios.

thank you in advance!

I would add a 50% in the power tune setting of my r9 280x; I would set as defoult parameter in the bios of the card, without use msi afterburner.

I would like that too. But I'm afraid it's not possible. Afterburner isn't so bad though. It works very well for that.

Hi there,

First off this tool looks great and cred to the creator and contributors! :)

I am having a bit of difficulty using it though. After saving my vBIOS with GPU-> 0.8.2 (which works fine) to a .rom file (tried to Desktop and different drive, not that it would matter), I am unable to open it in VBE7.

After pressing Open and selecting the .rom file in VBE7, a message saying "Not supported!" pops up and I am unable to edit the vBIOS so I can raise the core voltage :(

I was under the impression many others have successfully opened, edited and flashed my card, so perhaps you can help me out?

Specs:

OS - Win7 x64 Pro
CCC Drivers - 14.12 Omega
Direct3D Driver - 9.14.10.01080
Other software - GPU-Z 0.8.2, MSi Afterburner 4.1.0, HWMonitor 1.27.0

vBIOS - 015.039.000.006.003515 (113-C6710150-101) - .rom file also attached

GPU - Powercolor R9 290x (AXR9 290X 4GBD5-MDH/OC) - Uber mode
CPU - i2500K
MB - ASUS Maximus IV Gene-Z

Note: I tried to upload the .rom file as it originally was, but apparently .rom files are not allowed on Techpowerup forums, so I renamed it to .txt - hope that's OK.

Thanks in advance!

Hi

Welcome to TPU

AMD 290x is not supported as it uses different GPU architecture; VBE7 was developed by the OP to support HD 7xxx Series vga cards; that is why it gives message "Not Supported"

Note: 280x was based on / rebranded 7970 so some users are able to edit these Vbios images

Tip: attaching .rom files need to be converted to zip format.

Hi,

Thanks! :)

Ah, well that explains it, sorry about that... Must have gotten the wrong idea then.

So the only possibility I have is to flash an ASUS vBIOS or the such using atiflash? I would try to avoid it but if there is no other way I'll try it.

Afterburner is only giving me a +100mV offset, and I have tried extending official overclocking limits, enabled unofficial overclocking and tried command line arguments "MSIAfterburner.exe /wi4,30,8d,10", nothing changes the offset for me :(

I thought atleast the command line would go around vBIOS voltage restrictions?

Thanks for the help!

I sure am gonna miss VBE when I switch graphic card. HD7950 was able to be clocked loads of higher with fa rmore stability than by using MSI Afterburner.

Hello, I just bought Sapphire Vapor-X R9 280x graphic card. And it works fine on default settings which are 1100mhz/1500mhz @ 1.2v. But if i try to raise 3d clocks for +5mhz or +10mhz I get black screens and/or artefacts. And my card`s voltage is locked at 1.2v. Can`t raise it from MSI Afterburner or Sapphire Trixx. I tried to modify bios wiht VBE7 to raise voltage but every time I do it my card just crashes in 3d mode. I reinstalled driver after changing voltage of course but everytime its same thing. So any solution to this problem, or is my gcard simply locked at 1.2v? It`s a nice card beside that, running cool and quiet. I think it can handle 1.25v with no probs 24/7 but simply every try editing bios ends up in card crashing in 3d mode. Can anyone please help I uploaded my stock bios? Thanks in advance.

Currently experiencing the same problem. My Sapphire R9-280x Vapor-X Tri-X will result to a crash to anything 3d related after I flash the bios. I've only changed the voltage from 1.2v to 1.25.

The developer has not been here for 18 months so I am guessing that what we have is all we will get, so no.

Ok, now i was tried to flash bioses of all manufactures on my His Iceq X2 turbo and can say that only MSI, VTX and Powercolor bioses are working, but MSI bios not working properly (no sound over HDMI)..
And all bioses that i was flashed are beeing moded to turn off fans if temp goes below 45C and it's not working on my card...

There's no proof that the method above will actually reduce fan speed to 0%. I'd be surprised if it's even possible. You're probably wasting your time. Sorry.

EDIT: I just tried with my 280X and it didn't work either. I couldn't even get my OS to boot until I flashed back to the previous BIOS.

Hello,

I have a radeon 7870 ghz 2GB gpu, and I would like to change the device ID from 6818 to 6808. The 6808 id is for the "similar" amd firepro w7000 professional card. Does anyone know if this is gonna let me install the firepro drivers? Has anyone tested something like this? Thanks in advance
