Alright, I finally read the entire article, this time without a headache. (I did indeed find it to be humorous to read like I posited.) I didn't find it offensive when I offered my objection and I don't find it offensive now. It's not an overly sexual article. It's not showing any human bits nor is it using vulgar terms. I don't understand how anyone could be offended by it.

I do however believe it shouldn't be here. Don't get me wrong, I'm no prude. I find nothing wrong with the article from a personal standpoint. Merely a social objection. I would love to see a society where we are free from sexual stigma and children (and adults) can freely discuss sexuality in a respectful manner. Unfortunately that isn't the case yet. Like I said earlier, if a teacher was to see this at my school, I could have lost the ability to visit TPU.

I'm disappointed but not surprised by many of the replies to this thread (this one, not the original). Some of the logic used on both sides of the argument is a bit disconcerting. I'm not going to point fingers but some of you need to stop the "boo hoo for you" routine. If you disagree with someone's view, don't belittle them.

We learnt about bdsm in school and sex education and how people fap or rub. I'm very open towards these things. And I will never understand what's wrong. We do it and everyone knows people do it. I thought the same about the "coffee". I'm always at work when pie posts are made, but "coffee" is kept in spoilers with hints that it's "hot coffee". With that, it's usually expected and it's easy enough to avoid it at work.

An article on the main page is relatively hard to avoid, but I'm sure coworkers would understand if you then said "It's an April Fools joke" (not too sure about some bosses though ). Pretty sure that's the main issue here.

We used to have the.. I can't quite recall the name of it.. but a sexy pictures thread. It got out of control and had to be shut down. Risque pictures aren't a new thing, but it's something I wouldn't quite expect on TPU. Isn't that pretty much exactly what GeneralNonsense is for?

I get the humor. I think it's funny. I wouldn't want it coming up when I have coworkers or bosses walking by though. I don't think it's unexplainable if they do (unless you actually click the review).

Saw an interesting article a while back about how what made a "swear word" a swear word depended on what the culture feared. For the US, commonly sex, hence our words referencing it so much. It's what we fear, so it's what's used to get attention. For other cultures, religion is common. Swears based on religion exist in the US, but are thrown around near casually ("Damn" for example).

In a nutshell, it's not something I would have normally expected to find on TPU. I think that surprise is what's rustling everyone's jimmies. If it became common, I'm sure TPU would lose some crowds, but gain others. It's just a surprising deviation from the norm.

(The badger thing is kind of like the chimp thing from a while back. People were working towards their WCG badges. They became badgers.)

Well, moral and cultural issues aside, I will say I don't feel comfortable browsing TPU now. At school during my lunch break or at home where my PC is in the family room there is always a thread popping up about it and the review is still #1 on the front page.

While I do see how it made a good April fools joke I wouldn't mind it being removed from the front page now, and maybe all discussion moved to one thread.

I absolutely agree with you. This argument has very little to do with what individuals think and rather the way society thinks. The number of people in this thread who had an issue with the actual content is very low; it's the repercussions of even accidentally viewing such content that is the issue. The most important problem is that TPU could be mistaken for a pornography site by some zealous system admin and get blocked by web filters on corporate networks for all of eternity. In the legal system you may be innocent until proven guilty, but as a student or an employee you're guilty until proven innocent, and proving such innocence is an uphill battle.
