What is better a 1440p 60hz or a 1080p 144hz monitor?

So, sadly my monitor died and now i have a shitty replacement. I decided to buy a new monitor yay. Im choosing between the " ASUS VG248QE 24 " and a " Dell U2515H ". Also i have a pretty decent sistem to run both i think. But i just can't decide on what to buy. Both are about the same price where i live so that doesn't matter. I would like to use this monitor for some gaming and editing. But some people say that there's ghosting on the Dell one but it's higher resolution, which has the crispier image and better colour to get the best possible experience on my budget? :p I just can't decide goddamnit xD

Thank's in advance!

Cheers! :)

If so... take the one with the best warranty period you have...

I do that always... take my monitor at he last months... and tell some obscure things... so I got my thing replaced... Fresh lamps/leds etc :D

I would suggest you try to find a 144hz and a 1440p monitor and decide for yourself. It all pretty subjective and what one likes, another may not.

For me, most important things are not speed and resolutions, but black levels and uniformity, and then color reproduction, and only then the speed...

I suggest you the same... I would go with the Dell one... just because of the image quality... that's my personal taste, because I am a perfectionist nazi... and just hate TN based tech as such as a racist being... :D

But is the ghosting noticable on that monitor? If it is, then its kinda pointless for me to pick it up ( I really hate ghosting)

I say go for 1080 / 144. That increase in time resolution is much more important in fps games for reducing lag and increasing animation smoothness than more pixels.

Also, don't take my word for it, but try erocker's suggestion of buying both and comparing.

Note that I'm not talking about any specific brand or model of monitor here, just the type.

It depends on your system and the games you are playing, but generally I would go with 1080p for mainstream gaming with 144Hz giving a smoother picture.
For high end systems with demanding games the Hertz can be lowered to 60 if you can't afford a 4K screen.

based off the slim details i would say the 1440p would be a better screen for productivity and probably better for most games where the net code is not so sharp.

the 144hz screen would be better for the more comp games where the smooth motion and more frequent frames could be the difference between fragging or being fragged.

Can modern CPUs (not GPUs) even churn out consistent 144FPS in the latest AAA game titles? I would imagine there are bottlenecks galore when that CPU chokes on crowded MMOFPS.

Unless you can eve push 100+FPS, I'd go with the 1440p. I have an ASUS PB278Q and I'd never leave it for a TN panel.

My thoughts:

The best would be higher refresh rates, as its easier on your eyes. However you need a lot more powerful PC to achieve that, *AND* some titles really dont handle it well (see a recent forum thread about RAGE, which runs at double speed at 120Hz)

higher res is the 'simpler' option with less drawbacks and technical difficulties, but i've always been a fan of high refresh rates and would choose that in a heartbeat if it had less complications.

I think i've got the idea. I will go with the Dell one and put another graphics card in just to be safe with 60 fps min on 1440p. My conclusion is that i don't really play many competitive games, sometimes i go a round of cs with my friends or play some battlefield, but we're not that serious about it. I mostly play games for fun, and i guess 60hz won't be a problem for just that. Also i've read that the Dell one has better color reproduction and more pixels that make it a better choice for me.

Thanks for your time everybody :)

I prefer the resolution over the refresh rate, which is why I went with a 1440p@60Hz monitor. However, I bought an overclockable monitor, so I actually run it at 1440p@100Hz, a decent compromise IMO.

My PB278Q manages 70Hz pretty well, I think I took it up to 80Hz before it couldn't handle it. I like to play games at max settings, so there are a number of games that won't manage a steady 60FPS on a GTX 970, but I'm okay with down to 45. Not sure what the Dell is capable of, but it's easy enough to google it. EVGA's Precision X has a built in panel overclock feature that works, most of the time.

hey man, you have a gtx 970 and 1440p monitor, how do games perform on the sistem? Im wondering because i'm ok with turning down aa to maintain 60 fps, but i think it's still not enough, i think i shall get another 970 if it most of the games won't work 1440p 60 fps

I don't see any need to us AA at 1440p. I never notice any jaggies unless I specifically look for them. It depends on the game, but most games run at 60FPS or pretty close with max settings. Depends on what games you're going to be playing.
