So, I am interested in Downsizing my PC. I want to go Mini-ITX.

This is my current Rig:

  • Intel Core i7 4770k
  • Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3
  • Corsair H100i
  • Crucial Ballistix Sport LP 1600Mhz 16GB 2x8GB
  • Radeon HD 7970Ghz w/ custom cooling (read replaced fans and TIM)
  • Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium PCIe
  • Corsair HX750 Gold
  • Coolermaster HAF-XB Case
  • Hauppauge 1850 TV Tuner
  • 2 HDDs
  • 3 SSDs
  • DVDRW
  • Windows 8.1 x64 Pro
I am willing to move one of the HDDs to an external enclosure as it holds my media.
I still use my DVDRW to burn discs
I am interested in moving the TV Tuner card to an external USB based one.
Same goes with the Soundcard unless the onboard was good enough and easily allowed me to split my audio sources.

i will put all this excess gear up for sale after the built is completed. I still have a Corsair Graphite 600T i have been trying to sell for 2 years.

I am ok with an external Soundcard or Onboard so long as it allows me to easily split audio sources. eg: TS3 to headphones and game audio to speakers.

Let's aim for a budget of ~$500.

Might I suggest something like a uATX motherboard and the SilverStone twins: SilverStone Temjin Series TJ08B-E and SST-PS07B?

Edit: check out this search for "mini-tower uATX" cases @ NE: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007583 8000 100007583 8000 600006306&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&cm_sp=Cat_Computer-Cases_3-_-VisNav-_-MicroATXMini&Page=2
The Prodogy M is missing from that search for some weird reason.(it's missing because NE does not sell it, a third party does - have to make sure that searches are not "NE only")

Mini ITX only has one slot available, so if you want to go with mini ITX, ditching the TV tuner and sound card is a requirement. I agree with TheBlueBumblebee; a small micro-ATX case is probably your best choice as it would allow you to keep most if not all of your existing hardware and yet still have a smaller case.

Don't buy an ASRock ITX board. They dump an awful lot of chips on the underside right near the processor socket. The boards themselves have decent features, but they suck for custom coolers that require custom back brackets.

You could also keep everything in your build besides the TV tuner and/or soundcard if you went mATX and bought a cube case, similar to the Aerocool DS. Plenty of drive bays, and enough room for a H100i. Quite small too, had one for about a year, very nice to build in.

KRD, you've had several threads along this line, so talking you into a uATX is probably not going to happen. If I were to build an ITX system, I'd start with this case: SilverStone RAVEN RVZ01B review
You can get external DVD-RW drives for less than $20 these days, or, that case takes a slim ODD.
That case uses SFX PSU's, so you are limited to 600 watts at this time - although I'd go with the 500 watt Silverstone.
-so-
Case: $85
PSU: $95
Motherboard: Don't expect to be OC'ing like crazy, so just about any H97\Z97 mini-ITX case will work. ~$100
CPU cooler: might want to ask sneekypeet.
Slot drive ODD: optional
GPU: You could run your 7970 in that case, but, a cooler running, direct exhaust GPU would be advised.

Option 2: EVGA Hadron Hydro Mini-ITX

You don't need to go mini-ITX in order to get a small rig. You can go micro-ATX and get one of these cases: Cooltek/Jonsbo U3 or better yet Cooltek/Jonsbo C3 so you can have room for a longer graphics card and a bottom mounted PSU. In the US they are sold under the Rosewill brand (Rosewill Legacy U3).

I am now writing from a Cooltek C3 that has an Intel 4930K cooled by a Noctua NH-D14, Asus Rampage IV Gene, 32GB ram, 2xSSD in RAID0, 1xHDD, 2xGTX680 SLI. All these in a box the size of an ITX one.

I'm very happy with my Corsair Carbide Air 240 case; it's almost the same size/style as the Jonsbo W-2 Window, but more aggressively styled. I think either one would fit all your stuff in there, except for optical drives - they'd need to be external.
