Well, after playing it more, I DO see more sense to the 3 way roleplaying than some reviewers gave credit for it. It's still largely the humorous dialogue and incidents that are keeping me engrossed though, so far anyway. The first mission with Chop cracked me up when he got, let's say, distracted. LOL

Admittedly not all Niko's stuff was good. He had some great gritty moments and humorous comebacks, but by the end of the game his self pity grew a bit long in the tooth. The characters here are more in keeping with what you'd expect from LA area hoodlums and gang bangers too.

Quite frankly I'll be delighted if my skepticism about the story and characters is all for naught, like it was with car handling. For now I'm just playing it in bits and pieces to try and slowly savor every bit of it. This could very well end up being my blockbuster title of the year.

I seem to have a problem with GTA 5 and how it uses VRAM. I have 3GB of GPU VRAM but seems the game wont use more then 2.5GB. Instead of using VRAM up until the 3GB mark, it stops at 2.5GB, and then starts putting addition memory into my Motherboard system RAM and my SSD Pagefile.

My VRAM stops at 2.5GB while i am in 1440p, but then when i bump the game up into 4K, you would expect the VRAM to climb right? Well it dosnt, and only the Motherboard RAM and Pagefile increase. Basically the game sends the additional memory that comes from the resolution increase and puts it NOT into the GPU VRAM but puts it in the System RAM and Pagefile. And because those two are slower then VRAM i get microstutter while playing in 4K, so im stuck playing in 1440p because atleast in 1440p the game is smooth.

I am not currently using MSAA, but if i enable MSAA the VRAM does get up to the 3GB area, so all the VRAM can be used by the game. But its as if it has a section reserved for MSAA only, so unless you use MSAA then that last section of VRAM cant be used by the game in general.

Well this is what im experiencing and this is one theory ive come up with.

I'm currently at the point where I got control over all main characters, stuff is still unlocking in game ... the rabbit hole goes deep, feels like I'm still falling into this wonderland.

I do love this game shame its caused me so much hassle to run it. Worked fine on day 1 then day 2 would not load up just the gta screen then nothing.
Only way i can run it now is on sandbox. Even did a full reinstall will not work on the gta.exe just a quick gta splash screen then nothing.
Even in my nvidia game list will not run it from there.:banghead:

Mind you the tits looked ok in the strip club. Even if I did get kicked out for playing with her ass in front of the bouncer.

I REALLY want Rift support for this, but natively and with not a development kit. :(

I second this. I'm also loving the bug that allows me to run everything on v.high, including the textures, with only 2gb of VRAM. I hope they never fix this.

some of the older mechanics in this game drive me crazy like tapping A to sprint, cutscene transition, GPS and radios in cars lol

Things like this don't tell you anything IMO.
What is the PC running at, 4k ultra? For all we know it could be that. Or, could be running at medium settings at 720p. Doesn't give us an accurate representation because you can spend as much money as you want and crank a PC to whatever, but John Doe's PC he bought at Best Buy probably won't look as good as the PS4 version.

Interestingly enough, all of these seem so natural to me and well integrated into Natural Motion Euprhoria dynamic animation engine they're licensing. Hold A to run then tap and hold every so often to boost your step. Those sprint races do require a rhythm though, but it's not very fast taping.
What irks me is low mini-map update rate when it rotates while driving. Can't stop noticing it over and over again, especially when everything else is 60 fps constantly.

More details in the video:
you can see that for character rendering game uses same resolution textures on both next gen and pc and that's the only thing that's same ...
Most noticeable is how level of detail goes way down at large distances on consoles.

I've ended up turning back on VSync. Main reason being I was still getting occasional micro stutter without it, and more noticeable tear here and there than I was initially. I don't know what causes the micro stutter. I'm not sure it's related to texture streaming. It seems it's more likely to happen when I'm moving the mouse laterally while going forward, because more often than not it smooths out when the mouse is stationary.

Maybe I'll try adjusting my G400's polling rate to see if it makes a difference. I might also try forcing VSync externally, but I would only do that if I could do it with Triple Buffering, and if I'm not mistaken, that is only possible with OpenGL. Does anyone know if RaeonPro will force VSync and Triple Buffering for this game? D3DO doesn't work because it's D3D vs OpenGL.

I've compensated for VSync a bit by lowering Post FX from Very High to High. There was too much bloom in some spots anyway and I was hoping it would limit the amount of haze and fog. That may be tied to Shaders though. These are two settings that can potentially improve PQ , depending on your tastes, and they both impact performance a fair bit from what I've read.

Those platform comparison pics show what I mean by too much bloom. In some shots it shows his collar and even face with too much glow, which affects color accuracy. AO is also more detailed and natural on PC.

Extended settings (extra shadow distances and similar), ultra grass and MSAA is what I keep off to keep min fps above 60 at all locations on map, but I max out shaders to keep all surfaces close to the camera as detailed as possible.
What I'm currently wondering is if maxed tesselation is even noticeable at 1080p? I can't tell if tesselation is finer or more objects get tesselated?

The in-game footage of GTA V for PC has been captured in 4K resolution (3840x2160) with most of the graphics settings maxed ou

Exactly. Absolutely ridiculous to make that comparison between a console and a PC at that point. You've got a PS4 at a fraction of the cost looking pretty close to the PC version, I'd say that's a pretty damn good bargain right there.

I turned up tessellation and the ground in areas like the desert which had some done plus the texture on smooth surfaces now is completely tessellated, like the rocks beside the driveway at Michaels house, on High there were some areas that were just the texture, on Ultra it was all done.

He's being funny. At 640 KB/s it will take about 26 hours to download. If it makes you feel any better CAPSLOCKSTUCK it's going to take about 36 hours for me to download on my craptastic connection when I do buy the game.

That sucks! Downloading from Rockstar? What is your internet package up/download speed?

pedestrian is how i sum up my internet speed. They only offer 6/1 round here but I am not getting anything like that.

You could have bought the disc version and got 7 install DVDs, and a MAP.

i thought it would save me time....aaargh....we dont bother going to town often as it is quite a drive. They are upgrading to fibre here so things will improve, this is as bad as dialup.

The service has been intermittently rubbish for a couple of weeks but soon we will be fibred.....yippee.

That bites. I bought the game at BestBuy about an hour ago that's how I know what's included. :p
