Hey guys. A few weeks back I had made a post about switching over from IDE to AHCI to gain full performance from my SSD. Since doing this I have noticed something. Sometimes when I boot up the Windows screen will sit there for over a minute. Other times, it's the usual suspected 5-8 seconds or so. What gives? Is something getting lost in the mix?

Windows 7 Ultimate x64
OCZ Vector 150 120GB

Thanks for the help!

Do you have windows update set to do auto updating.
'Cause it will download and install updates on the next boot and it might take longer.

I can give that a go, but still makes me wonder why this is happening now.

Updates are turned off. :/

A little bit. Still seemed to pause at a blank screen where the splash would normally be, for longer than normal.

Hey there, @satindemon4u!

Another thing you can try is resetting BIOS to factory defaults. You should have this option available in your BIOS settings ( It should be called "Reset to Default", "Factory Default", "Setup Defaults" or something like that). Afterwards, you'd just need to edit the setting in BIOS again (setting the SSD in AHCI mode) and see if the freezes/hangs persist.

Good luck! Hope this helps! :)

Try Autoruns for Windows... see if there are anything in the startup you can turn off or disable.

Did a couple of items but nothing major. Still having the issue.

But if I do this, when I try to boot after defaulting wont it fail to boot? Won't the changed registry conflict with the BIOS settings?

I can see why. >.<

Hi again, @satindemon4u :)

Once your BIOS settings are reverted back to factory defaults, you will be able to boot into BIOS and re-configure your current settings. If you are not sure about the correct BIOS settings, just take a look at them now, just to make sure you won't miss anything after the reset.
As for the conflict, I certainly hope you've backed up the registry before tempering with it. Either way, here's something from MS's KB that might be helpful: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/322756?wa=wsignin1.0

When I had Avast I would get the same issue, maybe it's the way it scans startup items.
With Avira the startup is very smooth.

Although I am a huge fan of Avast! (using pro version for years), I can attest that on startup even in my system, Avast! is adding at least 5 to 10 seconds to my "desktop is ready" time, s it scans startup items.
