Help me build a new rig

Howdy lads!

I'm looking to build a moderate desktop and I'm willing to spend 900 euro on the tower so that should be enough for a good solid build.

It's for gaming mostly so it must have a high-endish GPU to push those lovely pixels at 1080p ^^

So far I'm using only komplett.ie and pixmania.ie as they both seem to offer the best prices at the moment so I shall just stick to those 2 websites for the time being.
Unless someone finds another online retailer that ships to Ireland then by all means TELL ME LADS!

I don't plan on bothering with any overclocking so don't worry about the i5 not being a K edition

Edit: I will be putting my Samsung 840 250gb SSD in there too along with my Windows 8.1 pro.

As a fewllow Irishman, I read your posts in a "squee" Irish accent, though I'm from the South, so perhaps I've got it wrong

Biostar Z97 is the cheapest Z board and by far and one of the absolute best (http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Biostar/HiFi_Z97WE/)
Couple of gents around here use it.

As for i5, I'd push for the 4670 non-K, simply for the good base clock and good turbo clock.

Not a fan of Aerocool's old stock, but their new DS series is great. On a budget I'd always recommend the Source 210 or the Source 340. Cheap and highly enthusiast. Great to build with.

For PSU, I'd lean towards an XFX unit if you can get one at a similar price. Sea Sonic built, damn good units, and they don't break the bank.

Any old 1866 CAS9 kit would be ideal, cheapest would be just fine, I wouldn't go for the Kingston kit unless it's the cheapest.

Funny I was just watching "Wild Ireland" with Christine Bleakley. Your build looks fine. Prices on ram are falling so shop around. 1600 would be fine.

Howdy RCoon how's it hangin?! I'm also from the south sure :L Waterford is where it's at ^^

Sadly I can't find any Biostar mainboards anywhere in Ireland so it would seem as though I'll have no choice but to stick with MSI

As for the CPU, I was thinking about the 4440 first.. then I was like sure might as well get the 4460 then! but then I noticed the 4570 for a few more euro! might as well go for that :L then the flipping 4670 showed up for just another little more and then I was like.. sure might as well get that then!!!! well anyway.. you know where that's going :L
I ended up just deciding that the 4460 just simply offers the best price and performs well for all my needs! Other wise I will have to spend at least 960 euro instead of 900

I'm certainly looking into as many cases as I can as I want a good solid case for 70 bucks! they sure are hard to come by and of course all of your suggestions don't even exist on Irish soil! :L ebay would be an option I suppose so I will have to look into that more carefully.

I would say wait for the R9 390 if you can. It should be a good bit faster than even a 290X. It's probably just a few months away from release but it may not be in your price range. If nothing else the release of the 380 (rebadged slightly faster 290X) should bring the prices down some on 290/290X. Maybe you could game on your laptop until then.

I could always get the 290 now and then buy the 390 when it comes out sure!

My laptop is great for sure but I do want MORE frames and Vram is a pretty big issue for me right now too :O

My guess is June/July but it could be delayed. If you're gaming on a 1080p monitor then a 290 should be very good for now. You could sell it later and maybe add some money and pick up a 390 which would probably be very good for several years even at 1440p. There will always be a few games that you might need to turn down a setting or two to get around 60 FPS in the next few years though.

A mid summer release would be fantastic! I just hope that those 390s will pack a serious punch over the 290!
The 290 will cream my GTX 860m so I will notice a HUGE performance boost which is what I crave right now! and not to mention I feel the weight of 2gb Vram being a limiting factor in some games I play too :/

290 will rock my world ^^

Sadly they don't ship computer goods to Ireland :/ unless I'm wrong? But I can't find any computer related goods that state Shipping to Ireland.

I tried a couple years ago and I wasn't allowed to buy from them! :L

This is what it says on amazon although I don't see anything that is out of interest for you. You save 5-10 euros on ram for example but that's about it

I would go with the Seasonic if it was between those two. It's a two rail PSU with 24 amps per rail on the +12V rails for a total of 576 watts. The PSU comes with one 6 pin and one 6+2 pin power connectors and that is what is required for the Asus 290 card that you want.

Would a HIS Ice x2 R9 280x for 133.00 used be a good option? Considering I can't find any R9 290s for less than 280 bucks.

Surely at this price it's a good buy??

I am always for 2nd hand GPU's. I have been using 2nd hand GPU's for the last 5-6 years. If you can get a good deal (not just money, condition-wise as well), go for it.

Also, I wanted to say something about the RAM. At the budget your striving for, I wouldn't bother if it's a 1x8GB stick or 2x4GB sticks. Actually I'd say go for the cheaper deal. I know dual channel is cool, but at this level I don't think one should concern over it. I'd also skimp on the GPU a bit, and squeeze an SSD - 64/128 for the OS ar least

I'm all for used goods for as long as they're in good condition and looked after!
I take it the 280x will do the job so?

I actually have a Samsung 840 250gb SSD that I will be putting into this build so I'm okay for SSD stuff

The only reason I'm looking at the 1866mhz RAM is because it's only a few bucks more expensive and plus.. I like how it looks ^^

2x4gb modules are fine though?

In your opening post your aim is to build a moderate rig so I would say an R9 280X is fine for your 1080p monitor. I'm not familiar with HIS cards but Guru3D tested one and found it to be good.

It needs two 8 pin power connectors so make sure your PSU provides that.

Yes it will, if your goal is 1080p ultra at 60FPS, that GPU will suffice for a good while as many people I know use 7950's (R9 280's) and are perfectly fine as well.

1080p at 60fps is certainly my aim right now

The Witcher 3 is what I want to be playing on this rig but I know this GPU will not run so smoothly on ultra so I will easily settle for high/very high at 45+ fps

Is it safe to add a 8-pin adapter to a PSU? I don't want to destroy a new rig by doing so :L

Yes, it has the required connections and plenty of amps on the +12V rail. Seasonic is well known for making quality PSUs.

The one I was looking at had four 6+2 pin connectors on the PSU.
