I want to attempt this this weekend. I have Coollaboratory Ultra in hand, just need guts now. Prime95 (small in-place fft) is instantly 99c even while the HSF is still cold. The cpu die <-> cpu lid is a horrible thermal connection. I plan to measure the die-lid gap via shims.

no it doesnt degrades.
maybe you are not that lucky with your CPU.

It does degrade and becomes solid forever. Gotta use sandpaper to get it off. It melts generally at 30 degrees but I tried boiling water and still didn't work. Tried acid too didn't work. @Maban got the cpu now and works fine

Delid is the Best thing can ever happen to my CPU, my highest temp: 55C* this saturday with a pretty hot weather after 10 min of stress test, all cores on 100% usage,also normal temps when playing are like: 48C* , games: CS:GO, Pay Day 1,bioshock 1, BF3 y NFS undercover and many others,
also i do recognize that i could have done 300 times a better delid , a little details when placing IHS back, bit still pretty happy with my first Delid,
