New GPU problems

I recently bought an Nvidia Geforce 770M 3072 MB GPU to replace my fried Nvidia Geforce 670M for my MSI GT70 0NC gaming laptop. It appears that the GPU isn't working as expected.. It seems to be recognized by my machine but there's no known BIOS. Here's what GPU-Z shows..
770m.gif

Also, under my device manager it says that there isn't enough resources.

And finally.. I tried to do a bios flash for my gpu, and I don't know if that's what I should be doing but I tried it. But I get an error. So I went and found the bios file for my GPU and also downloaded a flash tool for nvidia GPUs.

nvflash--list.jpg
With the command "nvflash --list" This is the response I get. It appears I have no nvidia display adapter? What is this?

nvflash--protectoff.jpg
And when I use the command "nvflash --protectoff" I also get the same response.

nvflash--rom.jpg
And same thing when I use the final command "nvflash 'filename'"

Can anyone please point me to the right direction?

Hi

Welcome to TPU

Stop attempting to flash the Mvga card; there should be no reason to do this unless instructed by the manufacturer; period.

Note: GPU-Z was designed to work with desktop PC and thus not all mobile devices are recognised

If the Mvga card was/is working with drivers installed, leave it alone; [**If it is not working as intended by the manufacturer]
**it is most likely that the notebooks motherboard bios dose not accept this upgrade
**Contact MSI and open a ticket with their tech support they may be able to assist

I see what you're saying but I still feel like it's not performing how it should. In the past, with my old gpu, I was able to play many games with the graphic settings on ultra and still got around 100fps, now I hardly get 10fps.. So I don't think everything is working like it should be. I can definitely contact MSI, but do would you happen to know of something I can possibly try on my end?

You have downloaded the correct drivers, right? I don't mean to insult, but sometimes you gotta start with the simplest thing.
I don't trust windows to do it for me, I always get them myself from the website.

Hi

So I don't think everything is working like it should be
I agree the issue is the Mvga card not being recognised by the motherboard bios, thus it has a conflict, this is being shown be the message "not enough resources" or windows is not recognising this correctly or both
Source here

have to assume: that when the 670M broke that the drivers were not uninstalled, so windows registry entries from the 670M where left behind [these alone can cause conflicts]
So start with the basics, uninstall the Mvga driver and reinstall the latest driver and or stable driver from the manufacturers web site

No worries, no insult taken. But yes, I did actually go to the nvidia website and installed the right drivers. I don't think it has anything to do with the driver does it?

If it doesn't recognize the card then you back to the old card. Its the reality of laptops. Very little if no upgrade ability

It does appear to recognize since it is listed under my device manager, it just seems to not be working properly. And I'd normally agree, but this laptop is quite modular and the GPU can easily be upgraded. I just seem to have ran into a wall.

You're right that when the 670M broke I wasn't able to uninstall the driver. But where do I do this? I go into my device manager and I don't see the 670M on there. I see my new 770M and the integrated Intel HD graphics 4000. I have tried, however, uninstalling the 770M but it just brings me back to where I was.

Check the BIOS and see what is being listed as the GPU, if it's the integrated change it to the correct GPU(if listed)?

The Video Bios for MXM style cards is not on the MXM Card itself
IT is Part of the Motherboard Bios

MXM Graphics Card for Laptops and All in One Computers

While your Laptop may have ""Graphics upgradeable by replacing the MXM graphics card ""
often the graphics Bios is LOCKED to the original Card Series

You Need to Contact MSI SUPPORT to confirm which Graphics Cards are a Suitable AND COMPATIBLE with your Model of Lap top
