GTA V PC DRM

Can anyone tell me what hoops I need to jump though to play this on PC?
I plan on buying the game from a store....I'm just wondering if I should or not.
Does it have crap like punkbuster or securom?

I really hate having junk running on my machine spying on me just to play a game.
Does it just need social club or is there going to be a bunch of services?

It really bugs me to have to pay 1000's of dollars for a computer and OS just to surrender it all for a $59.00 game..not gonna happen.

Yea i am one those in the crash plagued. I am sure its to do with DRM as get splash screen then crash. with a unable probably DRM not liking something on my computer issue.

I bought the game on steam, when the game launched I signed in to the R* Social Club and that's about it, no more hoops, didn't check services though.
Just remembered GTA4; Steam + R* Social Club + GFWL..

Register your game code on rockstars social club site, game downloads you launch the game from desktop gtav. exe and it will auto log you in.

Nothing runs(no services) in the background when not playing the game.

I'm not playing though steam I went the direct route.

I'm not sure about the retail dvd if it needs steam. I got it from green man gaming digital download. This game doesn't require steam

All I know if you have a code and enter it via rockstars site you can direct download it.

It doesn't, retail version connects to social club only, although Rockstar Social Club is separate application ... it's just that unlike uplay and origin this one doesn't try to be a half arsed game launcher ... it's other way round, game runs first and connects using social club app which is shared by all rockstar games ... smart move IMO with steam being what it is

They are very much compatible being the same game, the difference is how you run it. With retail DVD version you don't have steam overlay therefore no connecting with friends from steam without searching the rockstar social club, and you run the game directly - no launchers or game libraries with 'my games' section. Just a shortcut to an exe. Kinda feels like the olden days.

I also don't use any Steam overlay (I don't even know what that is... I know Origin has something like that).

Yeah it's just like Steam or Origin but much less intrusive. I don't even see it for more than a second when I start my game. I just click my desktop icon and the game loads.

It's also lightweight app, only does patching and DRM server connection ... I dislike bloats like uplay or origin when they fist shove store browsing, popups and self refreshing panels with screaming colors into the simple DRM application that covers handful of games (or backpack of games in case of origin) ... steam is too huge not to have all that, so all is forgiven to steam

Ah good. I might be weird, because I actually KIND OF like Steam. I used to hate it with passion, but I guess the Judeo-Masonic conspiracy finally won over me when I realized it was actually pretty convenient to have one unified library and launcher for all my games

I think you should get it off Steam, since it only uses its account based DRM, which is the least invasive of all of them and quite flexible. I've got hundreds of games off Steam and have no problem with this.

Also, you might find it a bit cheaper to buy the disc version off Amazon (don't buy off a Marketplace seller) as they're doing it for about £5 cheaper than buying directly off Steam. Note that it should be the disc Steam version though, so all you want from it is the activation code and you can throw the rest away. Not very green, is it? lol.

No you don't need a DVD in the drive. It also has 7 DVDs, and you still need to download ~5GB.

I bought the DVD but it didn't want to install off the disks on the 4 machines I tested it on, maybe a manufacturing flaw. Either way I used the code in the box to download it from Rockstar's Social Club. I like the Social Club because I can install this on my multiple computers without having Steam complain about it.

Steam also allows you to install on any number of machines. The only limitation is that only one Steam client can be active and online with the same account at one time. You can quite literally log in on one PC, take the client offline, log in on another PC, also offline and then another and have that one online and they will all work at the same time. If you then logged on again online, it will close the previous online client. That's all that happens.

That's not the case any longer, you can have the Steam client online and active on the same account from multiple machines (home streaming uses this) however you can only launch a game from one online machine at a time.

You tried the single player campaign yet? There's enough there that you hardly miss the multiplayer.
