Whoo, hoo, welcome Snarkcheese, nice to have some new elderly members. :)

Just wanted to add that my latest revelation is that there really IS something to the new trend of wearing glasses that cut down on UV, glare, and add slight magnification to help in resisting eye fatigue. I've yet to buy a pair specifically made for gaming, like Gunnars, but meanwhile I've been trying the orange and clear lenses that came with a set of 3 in my Ryders sunglasses I bought years ago when I was mt biking.

The orange ones are better for resisting fatigue because they specifically block out the blue light that causes it, but they're a bit too dark and affect how some colors look. The clear ones DO help though. As long as I don't do ridiculously long sessions, my eyes will still feel fresh before going to bed with no red eye, strain, blurred vision, or headaches. A common scenario before.

Eventually I'm going to break down and get a set of the pale yellow ones I think, if I can find them for a good price.

A little more...

I'm old now, and I can accept it. Raising a 10 year old daughter, helping an 18 year old son find his way in the world (he's a CAD and JAVA genius...I'm proud), and dating a 24 year old. Plus, I have tech knowledge to last me a life time. Life is good....I couldn't ask for more.

Same here, although I'm not that interested in all that modern RPG / FPS / online stuff - my love lies with older games which you just have to give a try again and again. The harder and more frustrating - the better. I grew up on a 2600 and later loved to run games on my old 286 with a mighty 2MB VRAM Tseng GPU (see avatar). I don't really play games much nowadays, but every now and then I do and certainly don't feel old doing so. ;)

Hi, old fart - wanna go play bingo tonight? :D Seriously, I'm in the same situaition as you are. 40? Hey, I don't feel old at all, this is where it all starts! :rockout:I still remember my 40MB HDD, tuned to 60 with DoubleSpace! My love for PC's has never changed over the years as well. Even if you think we'll be old when we reach 40 - we'll still be experienced gamers, and while we might not stand a chance against those kids nowadays, we could always challenge them to a duel in those games we learned to master the hard way. Hey, how did you get that TPU mug? I want it!
You guys told me you are so old... Tomorrow I'll have to ask my boss if I can retire early because of my "age"... :p Hang in there, 75's! :)

I'm 62 now. :pimp:

I like FPS games the most. I usually play LAN games with my grandkids, (I have three gaming PCs hooked up) or I play alone.
My grandkids are a lot faster than I am at playing UT3 & Toxikk, but I know the maps a lot better than they do.
When I go online to play, I get my ass handed to me on a platter because my reaction times are so bad.
Sometimes I do it anyway for the practice. I get better even though I'm slaughtered.
It can be a drag, but sometimes I get hooked up with some older folks and we have a lot of fun just trying.

I can't imagine not playing PC Games anymore. That would be a sad day for me.

I'll be 40 in ~4 months. I've been gaming(on all types of machines) and messing with computers for at least the last 36 of those. There's no doubt I'll being doing it until the day I die.

Just turned 45. Started playing computer games in college with F-117A Stealth Fighter (1991). Then years later was working a desk job and the IT guys installed Quake on my work computer (1996) as the start of where I am now:)
Of course I had an Atari and my cousin had a Commodore 64 that I was jealous of back in the '80s.
I built my first computer in 2004 to play Doom III. It was a Athlon 62 3200+, ASUS motherboard (don't remember which one), and a ATI 9600XT. I cannot remember the other parts. It was a great experience and I have spent a hell of a lot of money on computer components, cases and cooling gear since:toast:

Now that brings back some memories. That was a great magazine and they had games in basic that I could type into my C64 and play back in the 80's. The magazine also published a manual called Mapping the C64 which I used to teach myself Machine Language and where the OS used RAM locations. Very simple stuff compared to programming for CPUs today.

SK-1...I didn't need to see any words in your post....the pictures captured my childhood with laser precision. That damn football game was my favorite and I don't even like football...:). I also had a silver one from about a year later(different brand). I actually might still have it around here somewhere.

HammerOn. Stealth Fighter...yep. I remember that one. I should have stuck with Flight Sims I liked playing them...but the pull to FPS was just too strong.

Thanks for the memories guys...
