Having Issues with crashes and reboots

Hi all,

I''ve been working with my pc all morning as I have recently started having reboots in ANY 3d application. Sometimes the entire PC crashes and automatically reboots and sometimes just the video card goes. Zero errors, or BSOD's. I get a typical Event ID 41/63, but that could be many things connected to power. Trying around to check out my voltages it looks like im running around 12.3-12.4 at my motherboard on my 12v.

But when I use only GPU-z I start out at a 11.9-12.00 and it slowly starts dipping at the graphics card (Atleast I believe GPU-z is reading it at GPU level?) I seem to slowly decrease down. 12 for a while then itll hover at 11.75. Then it'll jump between 11.75 to 11.50. and slowly make its way down to 11.38 and once it stays at a more stable 11.38 it crashes the system every time. Which would seem feasible at that voltage. I guess my question is...GPU or PSU?

Haha Guess I should probably post specs as well.

I'm going to put my money on PSU...for sure(Diablotek?). How many amps is the +12V anyway? Are you saying that running just GPU-Z(by itself) is causing that much voltage drop?

54A@12v.

And no. I can run GPU-z just fine haha. But while watching it, once i start any 3d application I start to see 12v drop in increments. Every time without fail. But when I read at the motherboard i stay at a solid 12v. When read from gpu-z it drops to 11.38 and crashes the system. Whether its running or not.

54A = Good(enough for a 290 anyway)
Diablotek = Bad

I would verify the volts with a meter on the wire(not necessary, just something I would do, because I don't trust sensors). Then start shopping for a new PSU(since GPU-Z is probably right). Try buying one from a reputable PSU manufacturer next time.

EDIT: Didn't read that last post thoroughly. Wondering now what you mean by read at the mobo.

Yea, Seemed quite reliable as its the same every time. If it was crazy and all over the place I would question it. But its always the exact same, and always right at 11.38.

I mean honestly its like 6? years old. and was my next move to replace in june when the new cards come out (COUGH AMD HURRY UP SERIOUSLY COUGH). I just didn't want to find the GPU took a crap when cards are about to come out :(

It lasted 6 years? Maybe Diablotek ain't so bad after all. That's not horrible. PSUs almost always seem to go before anything else, system wise. Unless you spend a lot of money on one. Then you might get one to last a couple builds.

Haha well technically 5 years now that I look at when the 980x Released (Cant believe i put a 70$ PSU with a $1200 dollar cpu 0.o) Been with me ever since then trucking along!

Just put in an order for a EVGA Supernova 1000G2. I'll see how it goes! I guess if it's the GPU....I'll have a new psu already :)

The ATX Form Factor Standard call for the +12V to maintain a ±5% tolerance. That means it can vary from +11.40 to +12.60VDC. While your 11.38 is technically out of range, without using a precision multimeter, that could just be an indication of the sensor.

I am just saying I would have checked my temps and made sure the system and fans were clean of heat trapping dust before spending money.

Trust me temps have been observed. I keep my pc immaculate. All temps were very much in acceptable ranges.

Great! Just making sure.
I keep my pc immaculate.
:clap: It is surprising how many users never even think about opening up their PCs to inspect, let alone clean.

Yes, simple and clean. Looks good with good cable management too - well, at least on the inside! ;)

Haha shhh :p psu literally just got delivered so here to hoping. I MAY have *cough* accidentally ordered an r9 290x too....just in case.... You know because... It may just be an issue of not enough graphical power! At least that's my story to the wife ;)

Dont even think about crossfiring because crossfire is horrible - when it does work it works well though but be more than prepared to get shit on by AMDs driver team if you choose to go down this route.

And your cable management has improved so much, I can't even see all the cables hanging out the back! ;)

Lol! Sadly being an open glass desk there isn't much cable management to be had :/
