I knew it would take some time, but I wasn't aware it would take this long. I sanded, primed, painted and clear coated my Fractal Design Arc XL.
Total spray paint cans used = 6
Total Spray primer cans = 3
Spray cans - Clear coat finish = 3
Total time sanding (by hand, no electric sander) = 7-8 hours (this sucked....I shall rent or right out purchase an electric sander should I tackle a project like this in the future)
Total time priming, painting, clear coating + wait time between coats = roughly 8 hours
I then f'ed up and accidentally bumped one of the newly painted side panels over....it fell and put a bunch of nice scratches in the finished paint job as it fell upon the garage floor. I had to sand the damn thing down again, get another can of paint, primer and clear coat - total time here 4 hours.
Total time over all: roughly 20 hours
All work was stretched out over the past 12 days. There are a couple of minor blemishes, but they're either interior or at an edge of the case where they're not easily seen/noticeable. I lack the patients to correct them so I'm happy with the end results.
This is the only before pic that I took, just so you can see the original color.
Here's the interior - everything that is yellow, used to be white.
While I enjoyed my time doing the work - I certainly wouldn't do this again without an electric sander and a proper paint spray gun when going up against a full tower. Using spray paint cans isn't tough, it just got annoying when the paint in the can got low and the spray would either dissipate (which was good) or sputter and leave small blobs of paint (this sucks - takes a lot of work to fix). I would also hang the pieces I needed to paint instead of leaning them up against cardboard.
It kept me busy so I think it was worth it.....I can't seem to explain the enjoyment to my wife, she just thinks I'm retarded for doing all this work.
I'm picking up a SSD here soon. Once I get that, I'll be transferring everything from my old tower to my new. Thanks for looking.
And to those that want to take on a task like this and you haven't done it before - avoid full towers or accept the fact it's going to be a lot of work.
