Is quite easy and logical actually. AMD needs to beat up the Titan X both in performance and price. It will be no surprise if this card will be faster than the 980Ti, the actual surprise will be if the 390X will be cheaper than the 980Ti! But all the info on the internets point that the 390X will be both faster and much more expensive than the 980Ti. Either way the suckers who bought TitanX should feel very stupid right now.

Software A lot.

If you ever get the concoction to market, you could try a play on your name, maybe " Steev eau de toilette".
I wish you every success in your endeavour.

I think everyone needs AMD to make a big splash with Fiji, although personally I'm eyeing up Arctic Islands or Pascal as my next major graphics update. The games at the moment don't seem to warrant the outlay of big cash, and DX12 gaming, as well as decent well featured monitors aren't quite here yet.

I like it.

We do, all of us, the green guys for lower priced and more forced open source projects that move along graphics as much as the sheer brute power, and red guys for price/performance and all the odd shit AMD promises and half delivers on. DX12 if we can get it into games is promising to be the holy grail, as long as the two big companies play nice, and don't fuxxor support through drivers.

All of this discussion is over one picture of a GPU, which shows nothing. It's a metal and plastic box that says Radeon.

Green team, Red team, can we please sit down for a moment. Nothing has been shown. Fiji is untested (show me valid test figures, and I'll concede that point), the GTX 980 Ti is untested (the only performance figures I've been able to find are from rather sketchy sources, whether this is due to NDA or not is up for debate).

Without solid performance data, this is a circle jerk. Nobody really gets anywhere, the forums get messy, and you really need to use your imagination to see this as anything but sad.

As far as people wanting to see AMD or Nvidea fall, you're stupid. I cannot put it in any other terms. The competition between AMD and Nvidea is what makes GPUs more affordable. People moan all the time about how Intel CPU prices are high, and that's a direct result of AMD not competing. If AMD ever went under you'd never be able to afford another computer, unless it ran on an ARM processor.

So 980ti has a month to convince people to buy without knowing factual performance figures of 390X. Makes sense.

People are aware 390X will only have 4GB HBM though, whereas 980ti is going to have 6GB of GDDR5. Bandwidth not considered, people may buy depending on quantity.

EDIT: Save for the 390X with 8GB GDDR5 non-HBM memory of course. Forgot about that one.

There has been no product reveal and so you are just speculating and spreading rumours. I could point to another rumour which states 8 GB on R9 390X.

http://videocardz.com/55146/amd-radeon-r9-390x-possible-specifications-and-performance-leaked

So its all unknown whether AMD has 4 or 8 GB on the R9 390X. In a month's time all these rumours will be settled and the actual facts will be revealed.

the internets point that the 390X will be both faster and much more expensive than the 980Ti.

Well only 2 sites have benchmarks, 1 was chiphell or who ever and way they have results is well very questionable since its 19 games combined in to 1 bar. AMD own results would suggest that 390x isn't gonna faster then a titan x, they will be almost the same performance wise. That depends to on rez and graphic options. Wonder if that 4gb ram is gonna hold it back when it comes to 4k gameing. As for price does seem like it will be a bit more expensive. Both Price and performance are not confirmed either way so saying its faster based on benchmarks that can't be confirmed is pointless.

So its all unknown whether AMD has 4 or 8 GB on the R9 390X.

Its pretty much been confirmed by AMD that it will be 4gb to start with, 8gb option won't be til later but seems like that could be a dual gpu card not single gpu.

Yeah, but the principle source of information confirming this is coming from an AMD guy (Joe Macri), so maybe raghu78 remembers the last time an AMD man talked up a product specification ahead of launch - John Fruehe and his Bulldozer IPC claims. Maybe it's better to err on the side of caution.

Nvidia did a lo t of bad stuff latetly, 970 Fiasco, Mobile Drivers Fiasco, Always outdated I/O outputs as standard on their video cards with no possibility to make them single slot through watercooling, No Custom boards on highend models (Titan X).
They need to get their s**** together if you ask me.

Thats why AMD gets my money. I will be getting 3 or 4 WCE, depending on how they end up.
The more people like me there are, the more money AMD will make, and the more they will have to spend on their driver team.

So yah, no more NVIDIA for me ! Did i mention i will have to sell my Asus ROG Swift G-Sync Monitor ?

Do we REALLY need 6GB of VRAM or will FASTER HBM make up a higher difference? If you ask me, for 4K you need bandwidth far more than you need VRAM capacity...

if usage would be just over 4gb-4.5maybe up to 5 any impact of only 4gb probably be minized by bandwidth but more above that you should start getting more and more slowness.

LOL How long ago was that? I'll call you with bumpgate and raise it with drivers that blew up cards. ;)

Everyone forgot what this slide says.

8GB from AMD themselves. We haven't seen air cooling so either there is 2 Water Cooled Editions 4GB/8GB. No mention of HBM2 either.

I guess you forgot the "up to" part. we all know there will be an 8gb version but issue comes down to how. Rumor says it will be a dual gpu card, if its not dual gpu card could add a pretty large premium on the card, push card to least 1000$ very possible even higher then that 1100? Besides the cost of 8gb card, AMD even said that supplies of 4gb card's will be limited to start with cause low yields on HBM memory, if those 4gb card go fast then prices could rocket up some. Well could is pretty much certain they will.

Its obvious I didn't since I mentioned there could be two variants. It could be a 8 stack HBM1 or a later release of HBM2 on the same 4 stack.

As for dual gpu, that slide is for 390X WCE. The slides never mention or reference dual. If it was dual its still be a split anyways. I don't see how you can have "Up to" 8GB on a split. They'd have to combine 2 GPUs on a same interposer.

It would be a surprise if these cards aren't up there in price since they are introducing new memory.

Queston is When will HBM2 be ready for use? One story just read says Fiji isn't compatibly off the bat with HBM2 bought could be made to be but HBM2 won't be available til end of the year so could be 7-8months before have the card out then if that is true.

If its gonna be that long AMD won't have that edge for to long as Pascel won't be far off at that point from nvidia so.

I don't see your point other then saying. Well Nvidia isn't far off. I don't believe that's the point of this thread.

HBM2 doesn't guarantee anything either. One can choose to go with 2Hi or 4Hi. It all depends how they implement the memory. We wont see anything by them until Q2 2016 and probably announce in Q1 2016 event. By that time we could see a revised 390X WCE or what ever it will be called.

What we know is Hynix and AMD have said 8GB is possible with a dual-link interposer from the start.

Its one thing to say i guess, is AMD used 2x8pin on a card that sucks up to 600watts under max load so this card could be anywhere from 300watts to 500+. In other posts i did say card would be 350-400watts.
