Nvidia GTX Titan-Z problems: This isn't acceptable!

Well, if you want to put it the other way, the HD 7970 in 2013 was 18% slower than the GTX 780, while in 2015 it's 7.8% slower according to TPU. I'm not trying to make the numbers seem worse than they are, I just wanted to make it easier to compare the 2013 results against the 2015 results if someone was actually interested in them. The difference is significant, but the one who started the thread is clearly exaggerating the performance boost (or purposefully lying about it) that the HD 7970 has got over time - I do agree on that. It is still clearly slower than the GTX 780, and will most likely always be.

is the same 7970 at same clocks being used? what about 780 (or any kepler)

has any kepler LOST performance?? & i dont mean gcn gaining or maxwell gaining (remember when there was a magic driver in 2012, 7970 got boosted to ghz performance, ghz got boosted further, making nvidia RELATIVELY slower than it was)

this is a lot like currency, when the USD rose during the second half of 2014, you could say the GBP dropped, but then when i look at CAD vs GBP, they are even

i have to sift through all these forums & reddits sometime, but if someone already did it, do tell

i can also test my 660, but not the latest games... i also remember the same complaints when fermi was 'unoptimized', well i have a 570m that i dont recall seeing massive reductions

what about amd's 5 & 6 series?

I think you don't really get massive redyctions, as much as getting left behind eventually. Thus it APPEARS to be a reduction in capability.

Personally I think nvidia isn't doing anything wrong. they don't care about the community. Why continue support to Kepler that's gotten old and boring. My titan x will hafto be replaced in a year or two anyways as it will lose support.

People will buy. they don't earn from continuing support.

You really didn't see the hundreds of posts here at TPU alone that said the Titan Z was a waste of money if it were just for gaming and a waste anyway if for work also because you could get 2 Titan Blacks that outperformed a Titan Z for around a $1,000 less.

Let us help you pick out your next GPU. You will be better off.

I do pity him a bit if he didn't... and sadly, a lot don't. I mean the Titan-Z was a massive douche move to even market as "the only 4K ready graphics card" on NVIDIA's part. Does anyone honestly disagree with me there?

That being said, you should ALWAYS read reviews before buying hardware. OP, please take this as an opportunity to learn a hard earned lesson.

The old 8800 GTX released way back in 2006 has been supported by the latest driver until this February just gone, which I think is pretty good. That's 9 years worth of updates for a card that stopped selling in 2007/2008 and therefore hasn't earned NVIDIA money since then. I just hope NVIDIA don't start shortening the supported time too much, as their cards are really expensive now.

btw, my one still has surprisingly good performance for something so old. Can't quite manage 4K though.

Oh, I've got loads of old cards! I keep them as part of my "NVIDIA collection". Sad but true and is part of this quantum enthusiast's PC hobby.

I actually got the thing used for the princely sum of £58.74 off an online store back in 2008 as it had such a good reputation (the gamechanger thingy) and I wanted to play around with one. I had a HD 4870 then which outperformed it on paper, being a later generation. However, in games the gameplay generally felt smoother on the NVIDIA card, despite this framerate disadvantage and didn't show as many of the hitches and other little niggles that the AMD card did, much less in fact.

Soon the 4870 ended up on eBay and I got a GTX 285 which was current at the time and haven't looked back.

I ended up getting two 8800 Ultras after that as I noticed them for sale. One was used and had a GTX cooler on it and the other was a brand new sealed box BFG one with the fancy offset cooler that I got off eBay. There was even a BFG t-shirt in the box!

I still have them all, they all work, plus I've got a thing for collecting dual GPU cards when they become affordable. That means I've got a 7950 GX2, GTX 295 and currently three GTX 590s. I'll most likely eBay one of the 590s as I've just bought two of them. I did have a 9800 GX2 three times, but couldn't resist selling each one on eBay for a profit. If I can find a cheap one of those now, I'd buy that too.

I've got TWO of those and yes, complete nerdgasm stuff!

One of them is an Asus 8800 Ultra and looks exactly like the GTX version, other than the little sticker on the PCB. It's recognized as an Ultra and the clocks are Ultra, though. Not sure why Asus made one with a GTX cooler, perhaps to reduce the height of the card?
