We have cable, basic package. I have the modem that the cable company provides, and a linksys E1200 router now. It worked fine when all we had was the phones and lap top, but now that we have all this other stuff some item are having trouble connecting. Could it be my internet? ping is 40 download is 21.31 upload is 2.18

The RT-N66U is a great router, I do recommend Merlin firmware (mildly modified Asus-WRT firmware). Great range for internal antennas. I have the AC66R (refurbished-U) and it is has been amazing. Highly recommended if you need a WiFi router. Either way is good...if you need more range and WiFi options the AC66U/R is a good way to go...but the N66U is surprisingly good for home use. Good performance, great options and control, not quite Ubiquity or SonicWall-level but still damn good.

Have a spare PC with two NIC cards? IPCOP or IPFIRE or PFSENSE are really good linux router/firewall distros. Just connect that to a wireless access point for some good stuff

+1 I'm using the Merlin firmware on mine and it works perfectly. Even with the stock firmware, it's a very good router.
