Which variant of the 980Ti would you want?

Personally my favorite model of video cards are the Lightnings from MSI. So i hope to see some 980Ti Lightnings surface sometime in June.

I see that EVGA will have a Classified version of the 980Ti, so that appears to be the current best version i would be in the market for, and if there turns out there will be NO Lightning from MSI, then the Classified will be my choice.

To me it seems MSI only cares about this Gaming/Dragon theme for all their products now, so i wonder if they even give a damn about making another Lightning ever again.

They still make those yellow Mpower Motherboards, so at least in one department they still offer an alternative to the red Gaming lineup.

Want an MSI reference. Referenece coolers got a bad rap awhile back, and for good reason, tgus everybody runs from them, but these top of the line ones are very good. They are quality made, metal, cool well, with a pretty damned quiet fan for a blower, exhausting the hot air OUT of my case, where it belongs. Besides, I don't overclock my GPU.

I'm waiting for reviews and info to come out before deciding which I would want. When the non reference 970s dropped I was pretty sure I would get an EVGA SC with ACX cooler. I really liked those coolers on the Kepler GPUs. Then W1zzard reviewed an EVGA 970 SC with ACX cooler and noted that it was noisy. Later it was discovered that one of the heat pipes wasn't even making contact with the GPU so I guess the fans were having to spin up higher to keep it cool. This was corrected later with the ACX 2.0 cooler but companies do some goofball shit sometimes so I want to wait and see.

I feel this thread needs a poll, would probably be WAY better that way. Choose two cards from each vendor for your poll, preferably the more common ones.

I buy whichever model rates highest on TPU.

Zotac put out a model with 35% stock overclock, i'd go for that one since it is guarranteed to clock so high.

also inno3D makes interesting models and zotac is getting first places on the race with their models, so definitely waiting to see gigabyte model…

the worst part of the story, upgrading from current GTX 760 this december, planning to get a 970 cause it's what my wallet can pay

Waiting for MSI to release either a Lightning or Gaming version. If the reference cooler would lower the fan speed for idle or light tasks I might consider it, but for now I'll wait to see what comes.

By using a fan profile using all 8 points you start the fan out under 30% and go as high as you want per temperature point. You don't even hear it at 30, and only a faint whisp of it at 50%, and even when it's at 70% you'll only hear it if you are actively listening for it. It's not your standard reference cooler.

Reading W1zzard's review he made it sound bad for those of us who like ultra quite stuff

While it is very quiet while not loaded, that's not good enough for many low-noise gamers.

Correct. The key being "NVIDIA's settings". As it is set to run normally. I'm talking about Afterburner or Presicison, and setting your own profiles.

Im wondering if the 980ti Lightning will have a water cooler on it. Because the box its in looks big. Plus its called Duo Frozr, meaning twin cooling? So fan on card and water cooler for the core? Just an idea i had last night.

seems legit a hybrid cooler like other models maybe…actually the idea that a closed loop just for VGa is pretty interesting, at least for me,
