Hi,

- I want to setup a machine with Vmware Server with Public Static IP so that it can be accessed via any bowser from anywhere.
- I asked my Internet service provider about buying new static IP which is around $ 20 per year.
- he said that I don’t need to buy one as when I login the same IP will remain static unless I log off.
- but I want to access my Vmware server with several vms running on it online from anywhere in world.
- I want to know as in most office the Facebook.com and Youtube.com are blocked so can my newly assigned IP be accessed from my office which will be assigned to to vmware server?

If you have some other suggestion please advise me.

One thing I know that I will have to do some "port forwarding"

Cheers,

michael

No-ip.com will do it.

Also you could get fired when work does an audit and catches you doing this as you're trying to evade their rules of employment.

Don't do it.

VMware server on public IP? Not a good idea in my opinion.

Put the server on internal IP, and make one VM for management with public IP instead. Make sure you restrict the access to this vm, or secure it properly.
Put two virtual NIC's on the management VM , so you can rdp/ssh/other to the other VM's from it. (one internal and one for public)
Its more secure this way, at least in my opinion.

Note; this might not be the best way to do it, but that's how I would have done it.

Doesn't matter if your place of work knows who owns the site or not. The fact that you're on it is proof enough.

Browsing Facebook at work is enough to get you warned if not fired. I find it hard to believe it would kill you to not have access to Facebook at work for 8 hours of the day.

All work need to see is that you are trying to circumvent their policies and they'll nail you for it.

RCoon's right.

You're better off just using a mobile phone to access these things if you can.

!
I don't want it for FB.

I agree about all rules and all; but all I want is one virtual machine to throw my some unix commands at.... rather than sitting idle when I have no work.

i think OP just want to know if he'll be able to access his VM from office considering the office blocked fb, no-ip, etc....

if you're planning to SSH the VM, just check if the if your office block port 22.....

If you're in control of the VM, there's no rule that says SSH can't be on a different port.
Why not just put a portable VM on a flash drive? Take it with you and fire it up wherever you go.

Or just install that "unix"-thing on your tablet. It's x86, it should run anything (unless they're locked down somehow).

Why dont you just install Virtual Box, and fire up that VM?

Either that, or what xvi said
