AMD High Overhead Drivers on DX11

tl:dr AMD's drivers don't use command lists and they are slower then they *should* be

They were hiring devs with that in mind, doesn't mean that it's a "plan" per say but that they are aware of the issue.

AMD's directX 11 support is a major flop,

they have higher driver overhead
They have no support for DX11 command lists
and the serial design of their tesselator hardware results in significant performance bottlenecks further down the raster pipe

welcome to the "Good enough" philosophy perpetuated and propogated by AMD marketting.

You get what you pay for.

Actually, driver overhead in my tests in this thread was lower... Granted they aren't scientific tests but they showed way less overhead. However their drivers due appear to suffer from severe single threading, limiting their performance. That I will grant you.

They certainly have some work to do there.

even single threaded, nvidia's drivers output drawcalls at a higher rate due to better driver efficiency.

Ah. Regardless, I did admit the drivers need work. One can hope the next whql release is being delayed with good reason...

Synthetic benches aside, does anyone actually notice the difference? For me the games just run. I crank everything to max possible and play them. I just don't get the drama...

I do slightly in a few CPU intensive games... mostly FPS during loading screens, which is largely irrelevant. I'm sure it would be much more dramatic on a weak CPU platform.

I've downclocked my CPU from 4,2GHz to just 3,2GHz and I can't really see any difference while playing Killing Floor 2...
