This will be one of my very few pre-orders. In fact, I don't think I've pre-ordered (or paid full-price) for any game since Vice City.

In anticipation I've recently played through 1, 2, and I'm now in the middle of 3.

I dunno, some games are pretty far out when it starts. Witcher 3 for instance was available for preorder 11 months out! Dying Light was 7 months out.

Few more songs/host talk in the playlist would be nice. Can't get to the level of variety in GTA as that would seem out of place but there could certainly be more.

I wouldn't get rid of all dynamic quests. Didn't notice them too much in Skyrim until after I had completed the quest chains for the guild, brotherhood, storm cloaks, etc, and there was nothing else left. With a little improvement to the system it can be decent filler, like in the early Fallouts when you came across raiders fighting tribals or some other group and depending on your alignment you would help one or the other for loot/XP. That little break between going from one objective to another is a good thing IMO. Especially liked it early on when you're first learning, ex: save/meet a trader in the wild and they might know the location of a town nearby.

^I personally liked the part where they advocated making the combat more precise and less reliant on VAT. In fact I wouldn't mind if they did away with VAT completely.

Steam is taking pre-orders for $60. Release date is "TBD", but I can't imagine it'd be far off if it's in pre-order state.

So, going to have to admit to something embarrassing here. At the time that Pokemon was big I preordered the latest game at a gamestop. It took 13 months before the thing actually got released, by which time the preorder ticket had been buried in the junk drawer. Steam generally hasn't had the same...lag between ordering and delivery. At the same time, Fallout 4 will be printing money for them. It's a toss up as to whether this is a soon to be released game, or is likely to be winter holidays 2015.

I think the radiant quest thing was interesting, but more of a gimick than a really important factor in Skyrim. The same quests were always unlocked when you met the level requirements, and went somewhere. Maybe you wound up slaying something else, but that's 5% of the game at best. Play through vanilla Skyrim twice, and you get the feeling that the radiant quest system was basically just a way to have a dozen coders working on a dozen disparate items. The quests rarely organically flow together, and even more rarely differentiate between playthroughs.

Alternatively, you've got Fallout 3. Highly scripted, and if you deviate from script you might break the game. A second playthrough of it was only valuable if you decided to be purely good one time and a sadist the other. I honestly think New Vegas, with faction formatting, is the way to go. There's no arbitrary penalty for killing somebody who is a waste of skin, but there are consequences. There's no binary choice system, locking you into good or evil. You get scripted quests, which your actions dynamically choose. Assuming they learned from any of this is unlikely though. It's abundantly clear when different teams work on different incarnations of games. Honestly, play Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Tell me how those two games could possibly have been made by one company. The finger prints of each unique studio are more apparent than any splash screen with the developer logo.

My favorite point was about VATS. The author conceded that VATS was the only thing making Fallout 3 a purer RPG, with gun play sprinkled in. After that admission, they suggest that VATS be integrated into the system more like an FPS. I don't see mention of the fact that this is basically asking for a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game, yet that's exactly what I see. Let's agree that VATS was a cheap ways to make bad shooting bearable. Likewise, let's agree that Gamebryo is incapable of being a shooter engine (seriously, try playing Skyrim with one of the various gun mods). What I'm reading here is that they want Fallout 4 on a different engine. This might be projection, but I can't agree more. Remove a broken engine, re-evaluate what worked in your old games, and build something better. I just wish that Fallout 4 knows this, rather than being from the school of "if it ain't unusable keep using whatever worked in the past."

$60? That's ridiculous. That would be even more overpriced than GTA5, and that was pretty bad.
I'd probably play it if it had the freedom Skyrim had, and wasn't locked in first person (which I think F3 was).

WTF most games do start at $60 these days.

All their game suck on the main plot, OMG Skyrim was not all that either. They spend so much time adding content other stuff suffers.

In fact i enjoyed FO3 way more than FONV but FO3 failed with the main plot were as NV did some what better however i though the rest of the game suffered for it. I enjoyed wondering around in FO much more than i did in FONV even the 2nd time was more fun.

Just like always FO4 will be released and some thing will be 1/2 done. How ever if they use the game game engine that they did last time maybe with some hope this will save them enough time to make some thing with a deep plot with lots of quests.

But people keep bitching about how a game looks, then they moan about how it plays. Take SC and ED, SC is really nice looking game in fact they both are but SC does go that extra mile for sure but the mechanic of SC are not any were near the standards of ED.

GTA 4 and GTA 5 same shit, you either have one or the other and as much i like to SC to pull it off being graphically and mechanically better than ED it would have to be released 2017.

Back more on point, i be totally happy them using a updated FO3 engine if that would save them time to get the main plot depth and many fun side quests.

No, VATS is what makes the connection with Fallout 1 and 2 combat mechanics and using it is a great incentive to see gory finishers ... I liked it that way. It's not like they can't improve shooting mechanics and keep VATS also.

So, my wishlist for Fallout 4, or rather, things that are very long overdue given the fact we are now living in 2015 and not early PS3 console era. Because sadly, that is what everything since Fallout 3 *felt* like, including Skyrim and Elder Scrolls Online...

- Vastly improved animations
- A proper physics engine
- Some semblance of real ballistics instead of 'point crosshair and pray'
- Some notion of actual balancing between playstyles
- Some depth and choice in character building, something which is meaningful instead of a 'tick all boxes' approach
- Vastly improved particle effects
- A less static and much more interactive world (again: physics!)
- Less buggy overall
- Proper camera especially in VATS, removal of the tedious waiting times in VATS and its bugginess
- Better hit registration
- More extreme and varied environmental hazards, more of a focus on survival to increase general difficulty. Think in terms of 'early hours' Dying Light.

I probably forgot about some other gripes I had with previous installments, but this sums it up quite nicely. Bethesda really needs to deliver on this, or their game/engine will feel dated and not much more than a shameless reboot of Fallout 3. I say this because other than that, the environments and circumstances are way too similar to the previous games.

Holding my breath on whether Bethesda is going to deliver. It can go in any direction, and I am leaning towards them choosing the 'easy way out' because Fallout sells anyway. Looking at the trailer confirms that suspicion, look at the dog and its animations for example. The whole thing looks like they upgraded some shaders and use higher res texturing on the same dated piece of shit.

Now THAT is some innovative thinking! I would give triple thanks if i could!!!

On the side quests, I felt FNV side quests were plentiful and meaningful...much more so than Fallout 3 side quests. That said...

Bethesda needs to take a good hard look at the amount of meaningful content in the side quests/radiant quests that CDPR did for Witcher 3. All are very fleshed out, seamlesly part of the world, and no less effort put into the acting or content than the main quest.

This was posted on reddit 11 months ago by Sandra Reed who says she's an ex-employee of Bethesda. Most called her bluff way back then, but take a look at the roadmap she writes about, she was spot on about #1 so far:

Before you all say: "TROLL!" "LIAR!", etc, you can all can your mouths and ask one of the Bethesda Employees about Me (my username is my name) and they will confirm I worked for Bethesda. I am strictly posting this in "Revenge" for them firing me.

Anyways, I worked at Bethesda Game Studios in Maryland up until last month before I was fired for releasing confidential information (but it was an accident!) and so here I am, sitting unemployed with my 2 kids thanks to those fools. So, I wanted to say: I worked on, and played, Fallout 4. Yes, I did.

I want to confirm that the recent leaks about Fallout 4 are true. In Fallout 4, you are in Boston, and it takes place in the year 2287, exactly 10 years after Fallout 3. In Fallout 4, mixing things up, we are making the game more "Story Based" and the player character will finally talk, and narrate his storyline.

At the beginning of the game, you create your character (You can only be a male in the main story), and afterward, you start the game with a blast. After the blast, you awake to see the building you are standing inside blown apart and your wife, Lydia, dead. Robots and Androids are storming the place, killing and kidnapping the people inside. You, known as "The Officer", must escape and get revenge.

LOCATION: Fallout 4 is set in and around Boston and the surrounding countryside.

The downtown area is entirely controlled by "The Institute", a group of techies and scholars, as well as researchers, who devote their lives to technology. The countryside area is a "Wasteland" with small towns and settlements, as well as vaults here and there. Logan International Airport is taken over by the Brotherhood of steel, who are there trying to control the technology, and are currently waging a war against the institute, as they both have disagreements as to who should be in control of the technology in the area.

Meanwhile, Vault 79, located outside of Boston, is under the control by "The Railroad", a group of people dedicated to helping Androids escape the institute.

The map of Fallout 4 is about 3 times the size of Skyrim. The reason for this is to make a much more realistic and interactive world, that players can always find new things, even if they have played it for years after release.

FACTIONS:

  • The Railroad returns from Fallout 3, where you only had a small glimpse of it during the "Replicated man" quest. In this game, they are a full faction and are much larger.

  • The Brotherhood Of Steel returns and control Logan Airport. This BOS is not the same as seen in Fallout 3. Instead, a similar BOS to the ones seen in the classic Fallout games as well as Fallout New Vegas make an appearance, only caring about technology, and will obtain it by force if they have to.

  • The Institute returns from Fallout 3, and is headed by a man named Thomas Littleton. They are the primary antagonists of the game, and control most of Boston Downtown. Their patrols in Downtown Boston are the counterpart in this game to the Super Mutants in Downtown DC in Fallout 3.

  • Talon Company also returns, but in a much smaller force. They base operations outside of a bunker located in Downtown Boston.

  • Raiders return too.
CREATURES:

  • Super Mutants return, in the same form as the ones from Fallout 3, keeping in line with the "East Coast" mutants.

  • Feral Ghouls return as well.

  • Vicious Dogs return.

  • Feral Cats are new, and exclusively located in one of the vaults.

  • Spore Carriers return from Fallout New Vegas, and are located in sewers.
RETURNING CHARACTERS:

  • Madison Li returns from Fallout 3. 10 years prior to Fallout 4, she left D.C after the Loss of James and having thought she lost the lone wanderer as well. Having had enough, she left to Boston, as it is home to one of the biggest Scientific facilities. Madison will once again be voiced by Jennifer Massey.

  • Three Dog returns as well, although he is only heard on the radio, and not seen in person. People believe the radio is not actually live, and that it is simply a looped recording. (Based on the fact that you CAN kill him in Fallout 3.) He is voiced by Erik Todd Dellums.

  • Bryan Wilks returns from Fallout 3. Yes, the little boy you saved from Grayditch. He is now 19 years old and is a mercenary, working with Talon Company. He bases his reason as to working with them on "Once someone saved me, and I wanted to be just like them!" He is voiced by Jerry Jewell.

  • Other Fallout 3 characters return as well, but only through save transfer (Detailed below).
PLATFORMS:

Fallout 4 will be available for a wide range of platforms after launch. The first version that will be released is being developed for Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC. This version uses a brand new engine built from the ground up to take advantage of the power of next gen systems. Absolutely everything is new, and no assets or scrips are being used from Fallout 3/NV or Skyrim.

Fallout 4 will also be available on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. This version is also being developed by Bethesda Game Studios, but will release a year after the advanced version. This version runs on the Creation Engine, the same engine that powered Skyrim. This is being done so that PS3/360 users can play the game without problem. Everything will be the same in this version as the advanced version, except for the graphics, gameplay and some additional features.

Also, Fallout 4 on PS3 and Xbox 360, last I knew, was around 20GB+. This means that it will most definitely require install. Also, players of the PS3/360 version will be pleased to know that Fallout 4 will be able to import your Fallout 3 save, and adapt choices you made from that game for Fallout 4. This means that some additional characters could pop up, depending on if you killed them or not in Fallout 3. Also, some story references from Fallout 3 will be mentioned. Did the BOS save the capitol wasteland? Or did it fall? Did Sarah turn on the purifier and die? Or did the lone wanderer do it? It might get mentioned depending on your choices!

DEVELOPERS: Fallout 4 is being developed by Bethesda Game Studios, the same developer behind Fallout 3.

GAMEPLAY:

Fallout 4 plays similar to Fallout 3 and New Vegas. You can play in Third Person or First Person, or on the PC version, a new "Classic Mode" that will put the game into birds eye view and play similar to the classic Fallout Games. (Although by my experience, it actually looked and played more like the PS2/Xbox Fallout: Brotherhood of steel.)

Unlike Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas, you can only play as a man. This is due to the storyline requiring it. However, after the main story is over, you can have a gender change. BGS did not rule out Females for possible standalone DLC, however.

Additionally, full support for Trophies/Achievements are present on all console versions, and full steamworks support is present for the PC version.

PROGRESS: By my estimate, Fallout 4's PS4/XboxOne/PC version is about 40% complete, while the PS3/Xbox360 version is about 15% complete. Both versions are being developed by BGS.

RELEASE DATE: BGS has a "Roadmap" already planned out for Fallout 4 and a spinoff. I already was informed about it from the studio when I worked there, and I read it. Basically, the roadmap is this:

  1. June 2015 - Fallout 4 reveal at E3, trailer only
  2. July 2015 - First gameplay trailers
  3. August 2015 - More information
  4. October 2015 - PS4/Xbox One/PC release
  5. November 2015 - First DLC
  6. December 2015 - Second DLC, as well as PS3/360 version release
  7. January 2016 - Third DLC
  8. March 2016 - Forth DLC
  9. April 2016 - Fifth and Final DLC
  10. June 2016 - Fallout Spinoff revealed, in development by Behaviour Interactive.
  11. October 2016 - Fallout Spinoff released for PS4/Xbox One/PC
PROOF:

As I said, ask about me, but don't ask about this. If you do, it will 100% be denied. Bethesda will not comment on rumors.
PS. I leaked some of the first Fallout 4 info by accident, and it ended up in the hands of Kotaku. Oops.

Fallout 4 has been in development for years and was going to be shown at E3 this year. the voice actor for Three Dog hinted on Twitter like 2 years ago that he was returning. the rest of the information looks REALLY padded out. I don't think Bethesda would roll out DLC a month after launch and if Fallout 5 is going to launch in 2016 that means Behaviour Interactive has been working on it for years but that doesn't make any sense because they have 2 games coming out in 2015 and several job positions available on Linkedin.

Even if she's telling the truth, roadmap could be changed in 11 months though.
The most intriguing part is when she said it will be a whole new engine. I have reason to upgrade GPU then :D
