780Ti Flickering issue

Hello,

I just noticed that my screen is flickering when I was playing Witcher 2.
So I checked in 3D Mark and 3DM is flickering a lot and crashing before test ends.

I do not overclocked that card yet.

What I tried:
- checked cables
- reinstal drivers and test old version

- downclock for about -100MHz on clock and memory decrease power target to 80%
That helped. There is no flickers and crashing but I dont wont to downclock my card.

My card is EVGA 780Ti Classified ACX

I've seen some flickering issues before on EVGA stuff when they bin their more extremely aggressive overclocks (like the classifieds). It's possible they just binned it a bit too easily when they should have tested it more.

You can RMA it of course, but an easier at home fix would be to simply raise the voltage a tad bit with something like EVGA's overclocking software or Afterburner and see whether that's the problem at all. If it is, you can accept that as a fix, or RMA it.

whut he said above; looks like it's losing stability. My cards do not do this. EVGA generally has good RMA service, so I'd RMA it, honestly.


IN the least, touch base with EVGA support ,and see what they suggest.

I added 50mV and I can pass the benchmark. Score is similar so GPU is still doing job. However even on +50mV I can see flickering.
Also as far as I know my GPU is overclocked when load to 1020MHz but when I was doing benchmark I saw that my clock is 1163MHz. It's standard boost or its something wrong with 'oc'?

Maybe there is a way to reset all clock to default?

1020 is same clock as reference card.

1163 is normal Classy ACX clocks, as far as I know.

NVidia cards have boost over and above what is listed in "specifications". THis is generally around 70 MHz, and called the "Kepler Boost".

That 1020 was not present on my cards at launch...NVidia released a driver which added additional boost clocks, and every driver since has this same added Boost clock. This card you have could have been before that driver was released.

Ok I bought card in 2014/05/22 so I can go to RMA but I don't why I have this problem. Maybe it's issue with something else?

It could be because the GPU has been run too hot for some time, or the cooler is not making good contact any more. You can safely re-paste this card and stay within warranty. Just be sure to be careful and not physically damage the card.

I would:

re-paste and test

if that fails, then RMA.


This sort of stuff does happen from time to time, and is why we have cards with lifetime warranty and easy RMA services. I doubt anything you did caused the problem.

Never reach above 83C.
How many mV I can add safely?

it is safe up to 1.2V for reference cards, and a bit more for classified cards.

83c is forced by driver temp limits...my cards do not exceed this either...they will down-clock to avoid going higher.

If you increase voltage, over time, you will need to add more yet. I am not sure about what card you might get on RMA, either...maybe same card, maybe they try to give you 970...

Changed to 1.2V, no flickers and no crashes.
I did a FireStrike Extreme and score is on normal.

Shoulda send to RMA or leave it on 1.2V? I think this problem can grow...

You have a faulty card. Don't faff around with raising the voltage, it'll only end in grief eventually - that stability you've seen is only temporary. Just RMA it.

Touch base with them and ask. I cannot answer for them. 780 Ti is out of production for some time now, so it does depend on what stock they have. I would not want 9-series card myself either, but it is the reality of the situation. If NVidia doesn't supply them with GPUs, there's not much they can do.

Since you have classified card, you would think they might replace with another classified card, but who knows. EVGA is a good company with good support in my books; having been using their cards since 7800 days, they've definitely only improved in service. So whatever the story is about replacement, they will do their best to see you done right.

Yeah, performance wise the 970 and 780Ti are very close, trading blows back and forth.

Depends on several factors. If you want to run it like that for a tad bit you can, but I agree that if it were my card I would RMA it provided you get them to say in writing they won't be doing any "funny business" swaps for say, a Maxwell or something... since you don't want that.
