Help finding a good 80Plus Platinum psu (Need to be fair priced)

Ever since GTA5 was released I have been getting "Kernel-Power Event 41" Critical error's in Windows 8.1 Pro on my system (Check System Specs it's my i7 right) I dunno if it's my SeaSonic X-760 80Plus Gold that's gone bad but it's only in GTA5 I haven't really experienced it in other games or hard loading applications or when I do encoding so I dunno if it's a GTA issue I tried steam version and no-dvd crack version still the same just to rule out that it wasn't the original release that was fucked.

What happens with GTA5 is that it just gets stuck and I have to reset my computer, no BSOD or anything and when I look in System logs I see "Kernel-Power Event 41" Critical error.

I don't wanna take my Silverstone ST45SF-G 80Plus Gold and connect to my system and it's a bother to get out of the tiny case it's in so I am thinking if I should look for a new maybe 80Plus Platinum psu if I can find one for a good price, but I have been more picky over the last few years with brands and models even at work for customers.

1. 600watt should be more than enough.

2. Semi or fully modulær would be a plus.

3. FANLESS??? dunno if I should go fanless bcs my apartment gets hot doing summer.

4. Brand I always liked SeaSonic but their prices are just too high more or else, so I am not sure what brand to go with now.


I don't know how much I should spend but srsly come on I don't wanna use like 300euros on a psu here, and 600watt should be enough or correct me if I am wrong...

To avoid being an unhelpful jerk, let me expand upon the above.
Event ID 41 is a generic statement by the Event Log that the previous system shutdown was unexpected, in the sense that nothing actually initiated an ACPI shutdown sequence. Yes, it could be the PSU, but in my vast personal experience, it very rarely is.

VGA drivers, OS power settings, CPU power states, faulty high-address RAM block, there are hundreds of possible hardware and software causes for it.

Set your OS up so that it creates a small memory dump (256 kB) then use a utility such as BlueScreenView to check which .dll, driver or kernel module caused the BSoD. If there are no BSoDs/memory dumps, test RAM, stress-test CPU, stress-test VGA - if all of those go through fine, and the machine only crashes in games, try new drivers, different settings ingame, etc.

Swapping out the PSU would be a knee-jerk reaction, and wouldn't it be fun if it actually didn't solve the problem?

u sure? I have a customer laptop at work with Windows 7 Pro x64 that has the same issue and when I install the driver for onboard Intel HD 4000 Windows restarts at Windows 7 Splash screen, that indicate power problem either on the board or power brick that's providing the power.

But I don't have this error other then in GTA 5 for now so it could be just GTA related.

If it was my GPU it should do the same in other games and encoding but it don't, so it could be Nvidia driver related ik there has been some issues but this haven't really been one of them I have read about.

Didn't had their Heaven benchmark installed, but i had the Vally so ran it a couple of times right after one has ended and nuth and the benchmark showed GPU temps around 64~65c so i don't complain there

both check to that running driver 353.06 and GTA 5 v1.0.350.2 which should be the latest if i am not wrong.

Could it be a VRAM issue? Once it hits past 3.5GB it doesn't like it? Try lowering settings that use a lot of VRAM to see if that could be a factor

it rarely uses 3540mb so i doubt it's that, most of the time it uses like 3,3~3.,4gb and i even play in window mode

Oki took the in-game benchmark and this is what GPU-Z shows with my settings i use @ 1080p

under 3,4gb so it shouldn't be that, maybe GTA5 is just purely coded as GTA4 was.

Oki i am reopening this thread bcs my pc again today gave me Kernel-Power while i was clicking on a popup from Thunderbird

It's the same old Event 41, Kernel-Power, The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Mby it is time to change my PSU bcs it had run for 2weeks now and i gamed Alice Madness Returns, Aion and other that wasn't a problem.

I can see that OC UK has a good deal on a Superflower 550Watt Platinum for only £71,99 which sounds like a good deal.

I'm surprised nobody has asked why you're set on buying a Platinum efficiency power supply!

Platinum PSUs are twice the cost of a Bronze, Silver or Gold model, and not necessarily any more reliable, with efficiency ~2-7% higher. Have you checked your voltages with HWMonitor?

Now, there are just about any number of hardware problems that could cause a sudden power loss. If this is happening in Thunderbird as well as a game, you should check your memory first.

Here is a link to downloading an .iso of Memtest86. Write the .iso to a CD, DVD or flash drive (pick the corresponding download link) and boot your computer with it, and run a full pass to check for errors.
A penny saved is a penny earned (or Euro in your case huh?), and it's always best to try and diagnose the problem before buying hardware you may not need.

Superflower's Platinums are top notch units, rivalling even the G2 series from EVGA and the Sea Sonic Platinum range. At their pricing its a very sensible buy if you're in the market for a new PSU. Unfortunately I detest OCUK.

I have tested my ram to i am skinless can't find a error in testing benchmarking with them at all so they are stable, this happened after a update for about a week, before it was only when i gamed GTA 5, but since i didn't do it when i didn't game it was fine but now if i can't have my machine online 24-7 then i need to figure out why and i don't wanna reinstall my Windows 8.1 until 10 comes. (Yes i will do a clean install never been much into updating a OS)

You are running a pretty hefty OC on the 3570K. Have you tried saving your OC profile in the BIOS, reverting the CPU back to default clocks and running it that way for a day or two?
