like at @Aquinos said, consider your monitor. if only 1080p, 980ti is overkill. you could save and get 970. and also, 1000w is too much unless of course you planning to sli in the future.

Well that depends on how long he plans to use the card, if he gets that TI for 1080P he should not need another for some time.

Unless he get some thing like a 970 and save the other money until late or next year and buy another :p.

Your right about that PSU though just no need unless there is a plan of SLI.

I agree. I did the same with with my 1080p setup and had GTX 980 instead of going with 970. It may be overkill for now but saves me spending more for a GPU for couple of years.
By then 4K will be normal and I can upgrade to a whole new system.

My recomendation for fairly futureproof 60Hz 1080p (assuming that's what you want) would be a standard 980.

Then, you can skimp on the PSU a bit more as well. Go with a reputable 750W or 650W and you'll be probably overkill, but have room to grow. Then, take the money you saved and do something nice with it. :)

These all look OK to me, but you'll be able to find a 240-250GB SSD for around $80-100 on the 4th of July.
Also, FYI there is a new-in-box vanilla i7 4770 on Ebay for $250 and free shipping right now.

Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Video Card ($657.99 @ Amazon)
The 980 Ti is best suited for 4K resolution. As others have mentioned pick up a GTX 970 or R9 290/X if you're gaming at 1080P, or a GTX 980 at 1440P. Double the price doesn't mean double the performance!

Power Supply: Corsair RM 1000W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($156.49 @ Amazon)
Buying an overkill power supply is common gaming PC misconception #37. (I picked a random number ;))
Fill in your system specs with this power supply calculator to find out what you actually need. I can tell you now that with your setup as-is, you won't need more than 500W. Just make sure you get one 6-pin and one 6+2 pin PCI-E connector.

Motherboard: Asus MAXIMUS VII RANGER ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
CPU Cooler: Corsair H80i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($87.55 @ OutletPC)

Do you plan on overclocking the hell out of your $300 processor on your first build? Might want to start with the 4790K's included CPU cooler and pick up a less expensive Z97 motherboard until you have more experience.

If you buy the processor at MC, buy the motherboard there too, you will get the $30 off combo deal. I always buy my motherboards and CPU's at MC, prices just cant be beat. (Even after tax ;-) )

i5-4690K instead of i7-4790K (save $100)
Z97-A instead of Maximus VII Ranger (save $50)
Crucial MX200 250GB instead of 850 EVO 250GB (save $20, MOAR performance)
Corsair RM750W instead of RM1000W (save $60)
Any tower-type heatsink that costs $35 instead of H80i (save $50)

Now that you saved $280, kick MSI GTX 980 Ti, add the $680 saved to $280, which makes $960. Use this to buy two of the cheapest GTX 980 (non-Ti) cards, stripe them in SLI, and enjoy at least 20-25% higher frame-rates than your original config.

Mostly on board with this... where I deviate...

We do not know what his gaming resolution will be. If its 1080p... Go single 980 and fuhgetaboutit. THere is no need for multiple high end GPUs on 1080p (unless you want 120Hz vsync all the time type of situation). With a single card, as someone mentioned earlier, you can easily get away with a 500W PSU too.

Well if he's gaming at 1080p60, then you don't even need 980. Get a 970 and get wasted with the money saved.

:toast:
I bought a used HP Z400 with a Xeon W3690 and 16GB RAM for $350 on Ebay, then slapped in a 970 and SSD. Even came with a Win 7 Pro COA! Uber cheap mode

To me, the 980 is a good balance between massive overkill and plenty good enough. Not to mention towards the end of its useful life, you will have 500MB more vRAM to chew on which will be needed.

Sorry it took me so long to reply guys! I was planning on this build somewhat future proof and upgradable as possible. And also room to sli if I wanted to. I was planning on gaming at 1440p or 4k if it's worth going 4k. I haven't chosen a monitor yet either! So if you would like to make a suggestion I'll listen. And all the info above posted I'll make the tweeks though I feel like keeping the mobo would be good in the long run.

I can lower that by an additional $60...

Get the ASrock Z97 Extreme 6 board instead. Loaded with features and will EASILY take the CPU where its cooling will limit it.

I get/saw that... just trying to save more money. There are also red and black themed boards for around the $170 mark that will work just as bit as good as the Ranger.

I'm not sure of the OPs logic though (why the ranger is a better choice in the long run)...I dont want him to overspend based on nothing concrete.

the 850 EVO 500Gb's are $163 USD , or they were when i ordered one a few days back. Amazon

EDIT - actually they are 162$USD HERE

Lets face those sammy SSD prices are more unstable than a tornado, thing is their typically well priced at Newegg or Amazon.
