is it considerable to upgrade from 980 to 980ti?

as i saw, 980ti is like 30% faster. would it be wise to consider upgrade? or no visible improvements would be most likely?

i dont have infinitive amount of cash, i am no rich guy, though. i am just wondering, would it be worth the price for upgrade/improvements?

i would say not really ... i came from a R9 290 to a 980 (Asus Poseidon Platinum) just as a 290 was a solid card for anything the 980 is still more than plenty,
well ... i did not pay for my 980 ... otherwise i would never changed my 290 for it (and the 980 in Switzerland are on the same price of a 980Ti, mind you ... we pay a 980Ti reference 811$ when converted, lowest price.)

2nd argument for the no ... 30% in bench but would you see it in real life? my guess is no.

to what @P4-630 wrote : OC it a bit more, i add and you can even keep it until Pascal/Arctic island

unless you have a 4k monitor no 980Ti or Fury X or Titan X have a real meaning

(imho) 290/390/290X/390X/980 are plenty

i was not serious when i said Titan X ... pahahah sorry it was a total sarcasm... (for me the Titan X is not worth it no matter the case involved ... unless you get one for free or around the price of a 980) i recommended (on a more serious note)

so ... if you are not a gamer and think a 6gb 980 Ti would be better... then even a 290X 8gb would be sufficient. (and 2gb more)

but as i wrote ... unless you need CUDA so badly :roll:

tho the funniest would be: you buy a card with more vRAM and still get a "low memory" crash... that would be hilarious...

Unless you need CUDA, Titan is kind of a waste as similar functionality could be had with an AMD GPU for less than half the price.

980ti is indeed powerful but to be honest 980 is not very bad itself. My 980 is 9 months old and can still handle most games at ultra setting.
Personally I don't see the need to upgrade until 16nm gpu hit the market, whenever that is.

Nah, do like I'm going to do. I'll be buying GTX 980 and you should keep yours. Then I'll make another upgrade when Artic Islands/Pascal comes out. In the meanwhile, try to OC the hell out of GTX 980 and you're done.

Basically, within a family there is no reason to upgrade if you already have md-high range. Now, if you had a 750/750Ti or maybe even a 960 (depending on resolution and purpose of the gpu- this is what most people need to consider), THEN it might be a worthy upgrade.

No, not even on an enthusiast site can I recommend you throwing money away to upgrade from a fantastic 980 to a 980Ti.

i'm playing on my rig(see sys specs) on ultra details every single game without any major problems though 'only'
in 1920x1080 (and gta5 with ultra crunching average 25-30fps but thats enough 4 me 4 now)

I'm only now starting to save extra side cash for PASCAL next year big nvidia chip , thats what u need to wait for>>>1st full DX12 gpu
look just how nvidia is dumping all previous gens kepler, fermi and focusing only on maxwell
not worth buying

amd drivers are pain in the ass big time. end of story.. most 99% gpu based renderers use cuda (octane, thea, furryball, etc), not opengl or hybrid (indigo, etc), so there is no room for amd for my needs.
i have had several amd cards and never ever had used it with no problems. those connected with this workflow will understand and agree

If you look only at the numbers, then GTX 980 Ti offers similar/better price/performance as GTX 980 non-Ti.

So, if you can sell your 980 near retail price, and you can spare the money of course, then you get roughly a linear improvement in performance for your Dollars.

Since, you don't game at all then you really need a workstation graphics card. I would suggest a Quadro K4200. It's 789.00 at newegg, but in your case it would be worth it over a 980 ti or Titan, but of course if you ever plan to game then do as w1zzard said and sale yours and get a ti. You really can't compare a gaming card to a workstation card for the type of work you are doing.

That is pretty telling. Since AMD is out for you for various reasons, either founded or unfounded, the 6GB 980TI is going to be your best bet. Sounds like you need the VRAM and can't afford a real pro card so the 980Ti is going to be the cheapest next step up. Maybe you can find a first gen Titan with 6GB used?
