[CyberPower UPS] (server is on USB, my computer is on serial yet but probably will be switching this year)

I think that's everything. I won't bother with stuff that isn't always plugged in...because why?

I'll try it when I get windows 10. I just need to find that serial connector I removed from my PC. And yes.....my x79 board has a serial port. :eek:

I don't think it uses a driver...or least not a driver separate from what Windows already has. COM ports are a standard so the software need only know how to communicate with the device on the other end. The problem is software because if the manufacturer doesn't provide software, you're probably out of luck. The UPS Service which had universal support was discontinued in Windows Vista and newer. The CyberPower software supports both USB and serial; USB gets a lot more information though to the point that I wouldn't recommend using serial. Serial pretty much only tells the computer whether or not it is in battery mode.

So I guess I'm using 18 USB devices, with the game controllers and universal cables only connected (by toggling the switched USB hub ports) to pc (and device, respectively) when needed. 9 USB ports on the desktop populated, one or two on the laptop as required; sometimes a third for USB drive for whatever. I do all my file transfers and ROM flashing over wifi and charge my phone from the wall so it doesn't count. I use a pair of modded ATH-m50 with V-Moda boompro mic connected to the onboard frontpanel audio for gaming instead of the shit-tier corsair wireless usb headset, yet still always have it plugged in but switched off for some reason. Normally I'd have my audio routed over HDMI but renovations and no room for my AVR & speakers.

I too have a UPS I just don't care to hook up the monitoring functions via USB. X99 threw some weird HID battery glitch I've never seen for and I just decided to stop struggling with it and use it as a "dumb" UPS.

EDIT: I think that's an idea for a thread...

The primary reason to hook it up is so that the computer will gracefully shutdown when power is lost. Without a cable, the computer has no idea it is running off a battery and when that battery depletes, it's pretty much the same as not using a UPS at all.

going off topic, but i live in a fairly reliable area for power. its got me through all the ~2 minute brownouts in the area when some drunk crashes into a power pole fine in the last 5 years.

Besides what GT said i use mine to monitor power usage over time too.

1. USB keyboard
2. Regular 2 in 1 printer (maybe used 1 every 2-3 months).
Sometimes a usb joy pad, but maybe 1 a year.

Pretty much I use 1 usb port the whole time.

The mouse uses the classic PS2 port. I cant complain, even for gaming it gives me pretty good accuracy even if it's a simple 2$ mouse. There is a PS2 version and a usb version of this mouse but for nostalgic reasons I went with PS2 version.

Any editing images wizz's around here ? I need a complex and kinda complicated photoshop(or any other photo editing software/ corel ). I did it myself,the results where not good (mediocre at best).
