Skylake i7 6700k overclocked to 5.2GHz on air?

I havent seen this posted already so I apologize if it has been. But what do you all think about this? Wonder if it's possible that these are really good overclockers and if that is the case, I wonder what it would on on water?

ntel’s Skylake processors are going to hit the market in a couple of weeks and we have seen several samples already rolling out in the wild which have been tested by a few Chinese sites. The Core i7-6700K is going to be the flagship processor of the lineup and we have seen some preliminary performance numbers in benchmarks obtained from a test rig that use premature drivers and an early BIOS version that wasn’t fully configured to drive Skylake processors. The latest report on the Core i7-6700K shows that overclocking on the unlocked chips will be impressive than ever.
HKEPC is the first site to report an overclock on the flagship Skylake processor. Their Chief-Reporter, Lam Chu-Kui was able to obtain an impressive clock speed of 5.2 GHz on the Skylake processor but there’s more to this overclock than just a bump in clock frequencies which we will get to in a second. First, it should be mentioned that the upcoming Skylake-S Unlocked processors which include the Core i7-6700K and Core i5-6600K are the first processors in the lineup that launch on 5th August and will be coupled with several Z170 motherboards that will be available on the same date (actually some are already available on retail). These chips will be the successor of the Devil’s Canyon based Core i7-4790K and Core i5-4690K.

And I'm running 1.53V on SB-e but SB is 32nm, Skylake is 14nm. Haswell is 22nm and has been know to rapidly degrade above 1.35V.

It says right in the CPU-z window that it's running 4 cores and 8 threads

I looked and screenshot says 0.835V

Also CPU-z has a tendency to misreport voltage.

Sure go right ahead believe the screen shot of the software that can by as much as 500mv off depending on the board, BIOS and settings you use.

The screen shot seems to be altered.

Top CPU-Z seams to be pixelated

Bottom CPU-Z 1.72 doesn't have x32 or x64

Yep new socket. Intel only uses one socket for 2 generations of CPUs. So SB and IB on 1155, HW and BW on 1150, SB-e and IB-e on 2011.

Because I've never seen it miscount the cores and HWbot.org trust the core count reporting in CPU-z. The voltage reporting on the other hand is known to not work properly 100% of the time.

Correct, sir. There is a "switch" in the .ini file that can enable different v-core readings, for example.



That said, who cares about OC performance? Realistic numbers coming soon!

I hope for the same. Ive been fully intent on going Skylake for the last year and a half. Normally I would have replaced my setup by now since I built it at the end of 2011. But everyone keeps saying Ivy/Haswell/Broadwell wasnt worth the upgrade. Surely something at some point has to kill Sandy Bridge.

Not sure why the top of the screenshot is pixelated as when I launch CPUz on my computer, there is nothing next to the word CPUz.

Edit: after looking into it very briefly in the link in the article i linked, directs to a website with the 6700k on idle with 0.400v with an idle clock speed of 798MHz.

That 5.2GHz @ 0.835v is entirely possible.

I'd think 1.35V is a bit too high for a 14nm node. Tunneling leakage would be quite high, especially at that clock, one would have thought. But, I'm no expert in that area.
