Haswell ram voltages, what's safe?

Trying to get an 8gb kit of 2133mhz ram for my buddies 4690k build. Ncix Canada has a very poor selection of ram available, almost everything sold out. Was trying to get a kit with cas 10 and 1.5v rating, but they sold out.... all that's left is stuff with poor timing. They do have 2400mhz ram at cas 11, but they are 1.65v. Do I really want to run 1.65v on a Haswell? Can I downclock to 2133 and 1.5v ish?

1.65V is fine. Some boards do not recommend going over that, others are built for it. Most sticks will take 1.85V fine, so just buy what you like the looks of.

Good, guess things haven't changed much from 1st gen i7 stuff. My mobo is starting to go bad now though... now I need a new/used 1366 mobo pretty quick or I'm down..... Just buying a replacement hex core xeon and now this arg.

Probably not, but why not get the highest speed, and back down clocks and tighten timings?
And it's the MSI Gaming 6 Z97A mobo. I think it can do something with faster ram.....

95%, no. 1866 isn't high enough. Multi-GPU, yeah, it can help to have 2400 MHz.

Well, he's not going to oc unless I do it, and I'd rather not for now. Might as well give as much balls for the money at stock as I can. He came from my 9450, so he's already in heaven. Only have 1333 ram in it now, so I really need to step that up....

What's up with 1366 boards doing that. Mine is also acting funny sometimes. Thinking of just going Skylake and calling it a day. Wanted to wait for AMD Zen but I just don't have the patience anymore to deal with ransdom shit annoying me...

Well, my Silverstone psu blew up my Gene II mobo, and this P6T was hard worked, and was only supposed to be a backup. I knew it wasn't fully stable to begin with. Then this ES xeon, it won't go past 1.336v, no matter what I do. Could be the flaky mobo, could be the cpu..... Got a nice x5650 hex coming, but this mobo will have to go.

Lord, I'm fixing and building everyone else a computer, but mine is croaking. My main install is now no longer booting... thank god I always have multiple installs of windows. I may have to beg for a payment thingy for a used 1366 mobo, this thing is almost gone. Maybe the used hex I'm getting will stabilize it for a while, dunno.....
