I recently bought the Acer monitor in my system specs about 2 weeks ago now to go along with my Fury X. I have noticed on two occasions where there is this weird issue.

It happened within the first 6 hours of it being powered on and then again this morning. The only way to clear the issue is to power cycle the monitor.

I hope the picture helps, it has a series of RGB vertical lines running down the length of the panel. Never seen it before. I am using DisplayPort to connect from my card to the monitor and the connection is rather firm seeing as how DisplayPort locks into place.

I can still take it back to the store and try to get another one but it happens so infrequently.

RMA it... probably a firmware or a hardware issue...

Before you RMA it, you need to verify it really is the monitor and not your graphics solution. You need to try that monitor on another computer via DisplayPort.

I had this video card connected to a BenQ XL2420T for about 2 weeks prior to getting the ACER monitor. The BenQ had no issues at all.

I am leaning more towards the monitor has something funky going on with it.

You still need to check it on another monitor. But if they will just swap it out then do it

Since this just started with the monitor, I understand why you want to assume it is the new monitor. But you really need to be sure before you send it back because the image you posted is commonly seen when graphics cards fail too. And if you return a perfectly good monitor, you will waste a bunch of your time and most likely some of the shipping charges, and perhaps a restocking fee too. And then you will still have this problem to deal with.

Understand when you "power cycle" the monitor, this also forces a new "handshake" (resync) between the graphics solution and the monitor. Both sides of the handshake must work for a proper sync. So power cycling the monitor clearing the problem may seem to point to the monitor as the problem, but it also points to the graphics solution in your computer, not just the monitor.

So you need to verify the problem is with the monitor by trying that monitor on another computer. Or at least try another monitor (or TV) using DisplayPort with that computer to be sure.

Was the BenQ using DisplayPort? Can you put the BenQ back on and see what happens?

I bit off topic.
I love your configuration. How much did you spent on the PC ? Just the pc,not the monitor. Thanks

The BenQ was using DisplayPort. I traded up the BenQ to get the ACER so I no longer have it. The store is Microcenter and I am about 15 minutes away. Since saying the image I am getting could be on the graphics card side, could trying another DisplayPort on the card help to narrow things down? I do not have any other DisplayPort enabled displays in my house at this time. Should this happen again, if I were to resync the handshake on the PC side, ie unplugging and replugging in the DisplayPort cable, it should clear it then too right?

I wish there was a more specific way to narrow this down. The computer sleeps and awakes just fine. No issues there. It just randomly does it and has done so only twice.

I really hope it isn't the card.... I bought the only one the store had and they haven't gotten one in since.

@Cvrk this system cost me ~$2400USD before taxes. I have another solid state in here not listed and the RAM was crazy expensive when I first bought it.

That is insane money for me.
But i guess in your USA economy,is normal. A pc that is made to stand for 3 years and still be able to be considered decent,i think it's a very good value over money indeed.
Just a thought.... what em i looking at here ? Here in my country we work for (if we are lucky) 500$ a month. In the USA , is it safe to say 2000-3000$ a month ?

It is hard to say if a different port would provide any conclusive evidence - unless it consistently worked on one port and consistently failed on the other. The fact the BenQ worked fine with DisplayPort does strengthen your argument that this new monitor has problems.

Turns out it is the video card after all. I was browsing the web last night and all of a sudden I started getting a scrambled picture...... I switched to a different input and the no signal image was clear. Unplugged the displayport cable and again, no signal image on DP was clear. Plugged the cable back into the monitor and the image restored itself. Not a happy camper now as the store doesn't have any more.... and it doesn't appear they are going to be getting anymore for awhile....

I might try a different Displayport in the mean time. Thanks for the help all.

that didnt confirm anything, of course the no signal image will be clear since the 'input' changed/rehandshook (internally)

Not to get too off topic (since its solved anyway), but according to the U.S. department of health and human services, the poverty line starts at ~$1000 a month (http://aspe.hhs.gov/poverty/15poverty.cfm), just to give an idea.

I agree. The no signal image is just internally generated text. And note there is nothing in the VESA DisplayPort standard that says DisplayPort connections will be "hot swappable". So technically, you should be powering down both the computer and monitor before changing ports.

I might try a different Displayport in the mean time.
Where? On the monitor or card?

Let me elaborate a bit.... typically the distortion of sorts happens while sitting on the desktop as the above picture shows. Last night I was browsing FireFox, had two instances opened up in a snapped way, so half was one and the other half was the other.

I attempted to open a tab on the right instance and the system hung for a moment, then the resolution changed to a letterbox (black bars at the top and bottom), it looked like a 1366x768 resolution and instead of solid RGB lines, it was RGB Sine waves rotated 90 degrees to right on the axis, wish I had gotten a video of it now.

Before attempting a different input, I opened the OSD of the monitor because I figured if the monitor was not working properly, the OSD would not display properly or at the very least have the same Sine waves going through it. The OSD was crystal clear, I cycled the monitor through DP, HDMI, and DVI. When it got back to DP the image was still scrambled, at the no signal of the other two inputs, it was fine. I unplugged and replugged in the DisplayPort cable from the monitor side and the image cleared itself up which from what I have read is the same type of handshake reinitialization done when power cycling the monitor.

I have since powered down my machine and monitor. I moved to another DisplayPort on the card.

I contacted ACER Support about the still image issues. They recommended cycling through the inputs after looking at the OSD to verify it was displaying properly. They stated if the OSD was misbehaving or in this case, displaying the RGB lines through it during the display corruption, the monitor would be at fault.

They also recommended trying another DisplayPort cable which I have one on the way but not with me to test.

I had this video card connected to a BenQ XL2420T for about 2 weeks prior to getting the ACER monitor. The BenQ had no issues at all.

I am leaning more towards the monitor has something funky going on with it.

Sorry to veer off your issue but I am very curious about that BenQ monitor. How was it? Why the Acer? I ask because I'm considering the same upgrade(Fury+1440) The BenQ just seems to tick all the boxes I can even live with it being a TN Panel. Seeing as you have had that combo I would love to hear of your experience(Hopefully it was more positive then your current issue)
