It means absolutely nothing, unless you think stars are important.

Points mean nothing.

Stars however are indicative of your total post content on the forum. More posts = more stars. I believe they're awarded at certain post number milestones.

That, however, doesn't mean you should post-whore for the sake of stars. If anything, thanks/post ratio is more indicative of the usefulness of your content.

You get points for posting a certain amount and the thanks you receive then that is converted into stars. iirc I got some points just for filling in my specs. I think the intention of the points/stars is to encourage activity on the forums and to be helpful to other members here when you can. Once you get all 7 stars you can trade it for a personal name under your screen name but that is all you can do with stars.

You need a certain number of posts to be eligible for that custom title. I forget what, but it's quite awhile after 7 stars I think.

Sorry for dredging this thread up from the depths but I'm curious and don't see where it was ever answered. So the question is, what do the number of stars under our usernames really mean? I note it is NOT based on post count and thanks received alone.

alucasa and I both have 7 stars and fewer posts and thanks than other posters here who have only 6 stars. 64K for example (picked just because he's in this thread) is one of several with 6 stars but more posts and thanks than both alucasa and me.

But I notice we've been members longer so do years since joined add points? What other criteria factor in?

I looked on the XenForo Forum but it is all vague there too and seems to depend on what each site admin wants to do with the Star add-on(s).

You get points for various achievements. Go to your profile and click on the number of Trophy Points you have in blue. This will bring a menu of how you achieved those points. Click on the tab that says All Available Points and it will tell you what is still available to achieve. Once you have all achievements then the last points come from being a member for 3 years and you get your 7th star. That's why I don't have 7 stars.

Custom titles aren't an option in preferences. You have to give Wizz a pm and ask him for a title, my understanding is that only he can change those.

That is correct. Only W1z can grant custom title.

Yup, as manofthem and rtwjunkie said, you have to request it with a pm to w1z. If you wanna change it later you'll have to send another pm.
