I would love to hear everyone's two cents on the latest World of Warcraft expansion announcement.

Personally I think it looks terrible. Continuation of WoD in my opinion the worse expansion.

Max level 110.... just lol..... How unbalanced is the game currently... I can only ponder...

After the Burning Crusade I stopped playing.
I still remember those endless hours we spent in some dungeons, and while the girl we had in our parties as a healer struggled to maintain us alive, you could hear her baby crying.

I managed WotLK, but wandered after that. Too much like work, and that was just the daily grind. I don't mind working a dungeon: 10-man Scholo runs were a blast, and our first guild-only Rag was a thrill. I'm one of those "vanilla" players, I'm afraid. Achievements that don't grant me some bonus in game are a waste. The elite/rare pet spawns were worth the trouble for the difference, until the whiners complained too much. I don't mind balance (Big Red Pets were a bit over the top as much as I loved them heheh), but if I spend a few days camping several spawn locations, and manage to tame the rare spawn, then good for me, and I deserve a small pet bump in stats. And when they took away lock-pick quests, mount quests, poison quests... bah... just bringing up bad memories.....

And on it goes. WoW hit its peak during WOTLK, when Yoggie was the last bastion of interesting raiding. After that they decided to make the game more "streamlined". You know, that word a company uses when they're melting the very dignified foundations they were built on, for a more money-making approach to things.

The most fun I had in WoW was on a private server, populated entirely by Hungarians, none of which spoke english. It was a BC only server, and it was the most fun I ever had. I tanked BT and everything. Then I finally resubscribed to my ageing vanilla account around WOTLK, and discovered WoW was no more.

Actually after reading your post about private servers, I actually would have to agree I probably had the most fun derping around on private servers back in Burning Crusade.... All the random added stuff was just silly and made it fun.

I guess blizzard didn't completely understand what people meant when they said BC 2.0. Classes were actually unique and not necessarily interchangeable. You had warrior, paladins, and druid all them of them could tank but when you got to harder content you needed a specific type of tank. Paladins were AOE tanks, warrior single target MT and druid took massive hits, and same thing with DPS and healers. As new expansion have come out they have merged all tanking class into tanks and same with DPS and healer. I don't like the interchangeability of classes I enjoyed my unique role in the raid. PVP/Arena was much better back then IMO. You had to earn better gear 2k shoulders and 2200 weapons gave you something to look forward too. Also removing the mathy stats from the game I feel just dumbed everything down. It turned from a very non-linear MMO into a slightly more polished linear single player/mutiplayer game.

I think it looks awesome! I am not a hard core player, but I have been casually enjoying the game since vanilla. Honestly, this expansion looks like BC 2.0 and for a lot of players, BC was the best expansion. In Diablo III my main is a demon hunter, so I am excited to try out the new class.

I started playing WoW on v1.0 two days after it was first released and stopped after WOTLK. I used to be a Druid tank and it built up to that until Cata when it went to shit.

I was a bear of a tank; practically a mini-boss. My MMO days are over though, I don't have that kind of time and WoW simply isn't fun anymore. However, at the time I did enjoy 10 and 25 man raids in WOTLK after finding a guild with mature members.

It was the best expansion because it was the first and there wasn't many casual players back then. WoW was in an upward trend. Plus the classes weren't deluded as they are now.

Now they have timelines crossing each other.

I would honestly like for them to stop with WoW and make Warcraft 4. If they did War4 with the same kind of tenacity they did with WoW back in the day, it would be an amazing RTS. I still feel that Blizzard does a great job with RTS games and a modern RTS engine for a Warcraft game would be awesome. I feel like Blizzard has given the RTS world less love than it used to which is a shame.

I played Warcraft before it was cool. I remember War 1: Humans and Orcs. I still miss being able to build walls and roads but I don't miss the 4 unit selection limit.

Ditto on the private server, except this was an english speaking one with respectable player numbers... even those are gone, best private I could find peaks at 500 concurrent players.

I can't fault blizz because the fanboys will continue to spend the money, but WoW for majority of players has been dead for years.

WoD had really great potential but they ended up fucking it up. We're all hoping that they dont do it again. Holinka really fucked PvP over and we hope he get's fired soon.

I started tail end of BC, played through Wrath, got serious in Cata, didn't like Pandas, and came back (sort of) for WoD. Regardless of how the new expansion looks, I'll probably pick it up anyways. /shrug

Legion looks like the same crap Bioware is pulling with Old Republic. Instead of building endgame and content on top of the expansion you've already launched, just say screw it and make another expansion. Knights of the Fallen Empire is literally just that. Bioware couldn't be bothered to do proper endgame for Revan so they ignored the problem and invested all out into another expansion. They claim its going to be all about Bioware storytelling and while that is good and all, if the endgame sucks balls like Revan did, everyone will just leave again. Heck just about all the major endgame guilds on Bergeren transferred off when they found most of their members weren't returning.

WoW died with Cataclysm. I left about 2 months into that horrid mess along with a bunch of others. Endgame was just deplorable. Then they "allegedly" fixed it after that but I never went back. Pandaland, while something I definitely wouldn't have minded pre Cata, turned into a total cop out expansion to me. After the fiasco which was Cata, it just seemed like an excuse to get subs back. Hell they added pokemon battles in it.

Draenor, while I heard good things, just seemed like Blizz was out of storyline so they were going back to their old stories. Now Legion we've got Illidan coming back...come on. I got my war glaive which was obsolete in a month due to Lich King. I did my time in Black Temple. Not doing it again. Blizz needs to pull their head out of their butt and start getting some fresh ideas.

Eh, isn't the story goes back to Grom (almost) drink Mannoroth blood? at the time Illidan was imprisoned (and lothar alive, and arthas not born yet, etc).

the whole time travel thing portal was a mistake imo, its ruined everything. i enjoyed Cata actually the 5 man dungeons were very fun, MoP was terrible on every level. ruined the community, raids on random? no one ever talks to eachother cause of that random grouping stuff, 5 man was ok sometimes, early on anyway

Illidan wasn't a demon when Tyrande freed him. He went from a Druid to a Demon Hunter (Non-Demon). He then fights Arthas (Death Knight not yet LK) while he's still a regular Demon Hunter.

Illidan needed to absorb the power of Gul'dan skull to become a demon (Just like REDBULL it gives him wings and the horns). In the trailer Illidan is already a demon so Gul'dan has already been killed.

Then you have Khadgar warning Varian and Anduin (grown) that the legion has returned

ouch! 5.6 million subs is still a heck of a lot of income for Blizzard though. I guess Blizzard is hoping the Legion expansion will revitalize the game. I played WoW a couple of years ago and quit at a 30 something level character. It just wasn't for me but obviously a lot of people still like it.

It all went downhill after TBC imho ...

I started playing WoW just a few months before TBC came out but still got to see a lot of vanilla endgame content and managed to farm the full High Warlord set just before TBC hít the stores.
I aimed high and set myself the goal to become a renowned and well respected player on my realm come TBC. I was one of the first players to hit level 70 on my realm and while farming reputation to be able to enter heroics and do the attunement quests for Karazhan I made friends with very respectable players from vanilla times. We decided to form our own guild. It didn't took long until we became the leading force and managed to down almost every single encounter in TBC realm first. I was reputed as the best PvE and PvP shaman on our realm by far - and also the most friendly.
I also achieved several gladiator titles, both on my raid toon (tauren resto shaman) and my pvp toon (female undead warlock). It's been fun times and an amazing journey... Downing Lady Vashj realm first is still the fondest gaming memory I've ever had.

But with the arrival of WotLK a lot of stuff I really loved got removed or altered. The one that hurt the most was Blizzard getting rid of spell ranks - that alone led me to abandon the shaman because healing all of a sudden got streamlined to whack-a-mole and at the same time made itemization bland.
I didn't like the changes to the warlock class and so I decided to roll a DK. I easily topped every single Damage Meter (finally over 9000!) with a dual-wielding frost/unholy spec that was rather unique and was lots of fun to play. It didn't take long though until Blizz decided to revamp the DK's talent tree and customization - again - got very bland. The friends I cared most about in our guild had similar experiences and we just didn't feel the same urge we used to during the TBC days. PvP was also pretty broken and everyhing just went downhill and so - we decided to move on ...

It may be nostalgia, but I'm certain Blizz is not able to evoke similar feelings with Legion as I've had during the BC days and it probably wouldn't grab my attention in the same way TBC did.

Especially when you factor in that they released tokens you can buy that other players buy for real money and earn in game gold for paying $20 for that token. Usually about 25k+ gold per token.
