I run about 4-5 games at once, with a few tabs of Chrome up. Skype, more game clients, a movie or some form of media, and like, 6 tabs of TPU and the 4790k doesn't hold back at all. I've been thinking of bumping my memory pool amount to 32GB since I've been hitting 70% usage on memory use and I still have enough resources on the CPU to keep trucking along.

For gaming, I would upgrade the GPU with all the money I could afford and keep + OC the CPU as much as possible (4.2GHZ and above).

Even a 4690k and a good mobo, like an msi gaming 6, 8 gigs of fast ram, yet, it will be faster. Just built one for a friend, he thanks me every day.

I think I may end up going that route. I think overall it will give me what I am looking for.

I really does do the job nicely, and throw a gtx970 into it, game your brains out! God I wish 970s would go below 450 up here........

yes and no xD ... well i did switch from a 6300 to a 4690K no big difference (mainly playing FFXIV ) until i got a 980 in a giveaway that i used to replace my 290 (nothing big ... just 60fps stable in 1323p DSR )

pfeh ... if he really need 8 thread why not... but the i7 is no master when it come to non hyperthreading opt task(aka: a vaaaast majority) ... the i5 is

so did my EVE online time back in the day : 4 screen 5 account on ... did i needed a i7? nope (all to max settings)

well go for a 980 or a 390X, hell even a 390, at last they are worth it (ok a tad overkill for 1080p but who know screen, upgrade someday) the 970 doesn't exist for me (heavy modded Skyrim and 970 = no friends at all! )

well i have a 4690K and i don't regret it at all (i had some i7 in the past like a 920 and a Xeon'ified 3770) if your aim is mostly gaming you will be more than fine (unless godly optimized games for Hyperthreading) i play all type of games and i never seen any of them being hold back by my CPU or GPU, the i5 are the kings of price/perf in intel offer

I think my final choice will be the i5 4690k with the MSI z97-Gaming 5 board. Now for a case, suggestions? Looking for cable management for sure. Can't decide between mid tower and full tower though. >.<

If you have the space for a full tower, you might as well. Certainly makes things more roomy. With that said, I was able to cram some nice things in my Xigmatek Aquila mini-ATX case and I'm quite pleased with how compact everything is.

I have the room for a full tower most definitely, but wasn't sure about it just size wise I suppose.
