As small as the core is on the 6700 I would have rather they made a batch at a higher fab so it could take more voltage. Bigger pipes for more juice, and leave it up to the end user to worry about the heat. I really think Intel is focusing to much on Efficiency.

Well the thread has been pretty much answered at this point until there is more data out there with the public release. It seems Thermal load is not going to be the limiting factor for OC'ing rather the amount of volts/amps you can reliably get to the core without frying its fragile circuitry is the bigger and possibly unsolvable OC'ing issue/wall.

Yeah pretty much.

We've all been there, I can tell you about my personal experience with overclocking... You get more and more cooling until you realize it's all useless past a certain point because your limit isn't temperature anymore but it's voltage, sure you can run a chip at 5GHz but it will be short lived, it won't die but you will reach a point where that same voltage isn't enough anymore for stability due to degradation and then you proceed pumping more volts to get it stable again till you hit a point where you soak the chip with so much heat that only sub ambient would tame it.

I can say by experience that stepping down a couple multipliers on relatively safe ( not degrading faster than upgrade cycles) voltage is the way to go.

What really shines on superior cooling like water are GPUs for example. CPUs not so much.

Yeah I have been in the same situation many times as well. Heat hasn't limited my OC in a loong time due to my custom loop. But that was the entire point of the thread. If the chart shows 16c drop on delidding then was hoping there was an excessive heat build up and we could push further by removing that heat.
