The most I have ever spent on a fan was like $12 for my psu last year.

I have tons of fans over the years. I tend to buy cheap priced fans though.

What I hate about these Corsair's is the fact that rubberized corners don't extend beyond the thickness of the fan. Meaning if you place it on a table (or a solid case surface or a radiator), the plastic touches the surface instead of the rubber. I don't know how they managed to engineer such a good fan and then failed at something this basic...

One of the reasons why I love Noiseblocker Multi-frame. The rubber corners touch the surface before the frame and that makes it absolutely vibration free. It's just too bad they don't make 140+ mm versions for some stupid reason.

I was just about to order some Corsairs to see how they stack, but that's a pretty big flaw in my book. Thanks for the tip, will have to think now...

That is incorrect! I just checked all 10 of my Corsair SP120 and AF140 and ALL rubber inserts clear the plastic moulding and NONE of mine touch either the case or radiator. Not sure what Corsair fans you have seen but the ones I have all clear the mount surface.

Edit: As a bonus, my C70 Vengeance has rubber inserts as well, so I get double the rubber! :p

If there is a cutout in the case frame or the holding spots on the radiator are placed a bit above the fins it should be fine. But if it'll be resting flat on the surface (motor touching the surface), I recommend you check something else because yeah, that's a pretty big flaw. Noiseblocker has this done right on both, Multi-frame models with rubber corners as well as SilentFanPro that has a rubber frame that is attached across the entire fan frame.

I hope Corsair will fix this, because people praise their fans regarding everything else. I realized this flaw after I watched OC3D channel on YT about these fans (after I've already ordered them) and Tom Logan did the desk slide test that I also make. You place the fan motor down on a flat surface (desk) and slide it across. If you can feel the resistance of the rubber, it's fine. If you hear plastic grinding against the desk, the rubber dampening is rather pointless... It works well for marketing, because you can say you have it there, but it won't really do much...

EDIT:
That's what I've seen, but it was an older video (I haven't actually got the fans and the case yet, hopefully today). If they've revised them already regarding that, then they are pretty much perfect. I'll certainly report if this is true when I get them. These should be abslutely last revision since the store had to wait to get them from Corsair...

Challenge accepted:

So I took out 4 of my easily accessible fans (yay for rubber plugs), 2 SP/2 AF, and placed them on the floor and my desk. The motor or blades was not touching or grinding the surface, no matter which way I placed them. I can fit two credit cards underneath the fan and not touch the blade or motor. The fans remained in place. I purchased all of my fans over a two month period as soon as they were released and have had zero issue with them over the past 3 years.

I have no clue what OC3D were talking about.

:toast:

Edit: Dagnabit!! My ferret just placed her nails on one of my AF140 (in motion) and a blade bent and snapped off!! SOB, the stuff I do for science!! Flaw?? :p

They probably revised that. OC3D is sponsored by Corsair so I'm pretty sure they got in touch about it back then and fixed this flaw. If that's the case, then they are pretty much perfect and I'm looking forward using them. Now I have two favorite fan companies, Noiseblocker and Corsair. Yay :)

I like the Scythe Kaze' they have good CFM, and the support is unbeatable. I call, provide proof of purchase, they ask what i need, and send it. 2 replacement fans NO RMA needed(free of charge).

I've had several Scythe fans (mostly had Slipstream Slim and Kaze Mini models) and I was not impressed at all. The motor stickers always had huge bubble of air or something underneath and if you compressed it (like when you mount it on a case or heatsink) it started making weird resonating noises. They also made tons of air noise. I kinda understand that for Slim models, but Mini Kaze was totally disappointing. I had 60mm ones and when I replaced them with Noiseblocker basic silent 60mm models it was like day and night difference.

That's why I simply avoid Scythe as far as fans go.

I've had 2x high end Noctua fans to test (5+ years ago) as well and I wasn't all that impressed. We know the ugly color scheme, but the issue for me was a very specific kinda clicking noise it emitted and that really bothered me. I'm running my High Speed NB Multiframes at lowest speed and they aren't exactly whisper quiet. But the noise they make is so passive it doesn't bother me. The frequency of the motor/bearing noise and the air hiss is actually nice.

Got the case and Corsair fans yesterday and the rubber part barely catches flat surface if you try to slide it. Not massively impressed though Corsair 330R has slightly raised fan mounts so it's fine. But I'm not so sure for other cases... They are pretty quiet and the build quality seems good. I just wish they wouldn't use stupid rotor stickers. They are totally off center and vibrations caused by that certainly can't help the fan performance...

I vouch for Fractal fans, they are really silent and cheapish. and the Be Quiets are also very good ones IMHO.

Imho LED fans are useless, like a xmas tree.

Hi mate, did you get those at Computer Lounge by chance? Been to PB Tech they hardly have anything, just Coolermaster and a couple Fractal Design....

I have to admit, besides the Scythe 120mm fans I mentioned earlier, I really like the Fractal R2 fans in 140mm size. For that size, they are the perfect blend of airflow and quietness, doing a great job keeping my case cool.

For generic or general use - any Low or Medium 120/140mm Yate Loon. because they are cost effective reliable and easy to get by the bucket load.

For my own personal use - Noiseblocker, Akasa (Apache) or my all time favorite Silverstone AP141.

I never run my fans at full speed anyway. Most of the time they are either sitting somewhere around the lower-medium rpm range - its hard to tell with the controller on my 760T. The button only goes from 7-12v.

At 7v my case fans are almost completely inaudible. The only thing that makes any sort of sound is the Vardar's on my H105 that has a custom fan profile. Running them at just under 1600rpm while just browsing creates a little hum or 'woosh' but its no where near intrusive.

I have no problems sleeping when i leave my PC on and im less than 5 meters away from my bed
