8-pin CPU connection won't damage CPU?

Okay, silly question, but I'm one of those guys that values the opinions of other people when trying something new even if I (think I) know the answer.

I ordered a GIGABYTE GA-B85M-DS3H motherboard to use with an i5-4590. I don't overclock. This is the 1st motherboard I've used that has an 8-pin CPU power connector. I understand the extra power offered by an 8-pin connection is useful for overclocking, but that extra juice won't damage the i5, correct? The CPU will only draw as much power as it needs?

Are there any benefits to using an 8-pin CPU power connector aside from potential overclocking endeavors?

The board calls for an 8-pin cpu power connector so just plug her in. There is nothing to worry about with extra wattage or power or whatevs. It'll pull what it needs and you'll be good.

Thanks. Splitting the power needs between 2 cables probably makes it easier on both as well.

This is exactly the reason why 8-pin connectors are used.

Stability. Best to plug it in even if the board can run on just 4.
