What are you talking about? You did reply. You made some smartass critical comments to me and I replied to you. Then erocker deletes my comments but leaves yours, along with the deleted comments quoted, which isn't right. I was talking to him, not you. Now you get off your high horse and stop dragging this thread off topic. Thanks much.
For the sake of posterity I won't remove this comment. I'll ask one more time to stay on topic. Enough is enough.

a rma is not going to fix anything the problem is a driver/vbios conflict they are just gonna send him another card and unless it had a newer vbios its going to have the same issue
My expectation would be a newer BIOS as a fix, yes, I agree. Some manufactures don't like the consumer flashing the GPU though and contacting support and possibly getting an RMA started is a step that direction. If support is willing to hand over a new BIOS, that would be even better. My point was that he might want to start with support, the end result will probably end up being a BIOS as you suggest.

@xkm1948 Ok, I'm going to address this comment directly to you, as Aquinus and erocker have a real bee in their bonnet with me at the moment for some strange reason and it's not nice to be ganged up on like this. Perhaps I'll be left alone this time? FFS

I switched from AMD to NVIDIA years ago and never looked back, since their products just worked better, with very little hassle.

I've since heard about enough issues like this with AMD products to never want to touch them again and there's been lots of talk lately on TPU and elsewhere about this company being driven into the ground. Put all this together and I wouldn't spend hundreds of dollars on their products just to get the shaft with crap like this.

By all means RMA your card and get a working one (potential vbios issue that onemoar pointed out notwithstanding) but then I think you should eBay it and get an NVIDIA card as you just won't get problems like this. Sure, they may not be perfect, but by and large they work properly and very well, giving you peace of mind.

I'm all for ganging up on you. You won't get problems, until they do that 3.5GB thing (which I know you raged quite I bit about, in fact I seem to remember that was the reason you got a 980 instead EDIT: no, wait, maybe not but you did have a 970 at one point), or make something like the 8800GT cards which died like flies, and all those laptop GPU's (in the Core 2 Duo days) that also died like flies (which in a laptop is a lot more serious as I know you know). The Fury lineup has been problematic sure, and at least part of it is likely a fiscal problem, but you can't be serious in your point about AMD by definition makes worse products. I know you are serious, but it's still stupid to make it into yet another OMG AMD IS DEEAAAAADDDDDDDDDDD argument.

What you can be serious about is Fury having problems (at least this particular Fury), which is what the thread is about.

Me I'd RMA that shit and if I had problems again, I would probably ask for a refund, or I would fiddle with power and clocks until I got it stable. Probably the latter, but only because I lovehate the name. It's such a stupid name, but it's almost campy. It should have more flair.

I've never had a 970 or 980. ;) I've not had any Maxwell card, in fact. I didn't have any of those bumpgate cards either, at least didn't suffer those problems and have never had a laptop with NVIDIA graphics due to the price of them. I did have three successive 9800 GX2 cards which I eBay'd for a profit. Those could have had bumpgate issues if they'd been used long enough, I guess.

For someone who's "all for ganging up on me", tsk, you've actually pretty decent in recent years lol, so I don't have any problem with you as long as you don't start again.

It is really bad that a normal discussion of graphic card problem turned into another fanboy flame war. If I want nVidia I would have chosen 980Ti over Fury X in the first place. Search for my threads, I made a decision so please stop posting "Go buy a nvidia card." It is my money, don't lecture me on shopping.

Back to the topic. I have submitted an RMA request to Sapphire. Meanwhile I will try OneMoar's suggestion to keep the card over 2D clock. My problem only occurs when I use browser. If I am strictly editing documents this never occurs. It also never happens during 3D games, even some online 3D games will prevent this from happening.

I'm getting more suspicious that this may be a hardware defect, as according to the AMD thread linked by OP, there are people with wildly different BIOS versions having the same problem. 049.004 seems to be the newest, 048.063 seems to be oldest/original BIOS with the problem.

Anyone with a Fury/Fury X/Nano BIOS, please upload to TPU!

Wait it only crashes in a browser? Try disable HW acceleration that was broken for ages and ages when I was using my 290X. Anything dynamic would cause the card to artifact the whole screen and crash. Also did you try what I suggested with the force constant voltage?

That sounds....weird
I also have Win10 Pro on my main system. Since upgrading from Win8 Pro, I've had GTX 780 SLI, which I swapped for a GTX 980 Ti (Gigabyte G1 Gaming), then back to the GTX 780's, then a EVGA GTX 980 Ti FTW, and back to GTX 780 SLI again - and that's without a short stint with a R9 290X that I was troubleshooting for someone ( no biggie - major dust/fluff ingestion as it turns out). None of the changes required a reactivation.

If it turns out to be a BIOS issue, Sapphire have been pretty good in the past about allowing you to reflash without it voiding warranty. I had a lot of problems with the PowerPlay issues (Grey screen of death) that affected the Evergreen (HD 5000) series. XFX Black Edition cards I had to send back (only to have them returned exhibiting the same behavior), but Sapphire support emailed me an amended vBIOS that fixed the issue on my 5850 Toxic's.

The issue can very likely be a card that is just not stable at the lmake changes power clocks and voltages. These cards are picky, especially HBM, and AMD is definitely having some stability issues with these cards.

So a new card very well solve the problem, the new card may be stable at the low power clocks and voltages.

You are allowed to make changes to your hardware without needing to reactivate. And when it does require a reactivation you can call and reactivate as long as you haven't changed your motherboard. They will reactivate it over the phone.

This is classic hw acceleration bug. Check the thread below, pay attention to the section on rtss. Browsers, youtube, flash, and apps that have no business calling for hw acceleration can wreak havoc on powerstates.

I don't think that is true, I mean I have a test bench I use with Windows 10 home and I swap GPU's in it all the time without issue. I have only had an issue when swapping motherboards before where windows won't recognize the system.

As for the problem, have you tried the other ports on the card just to eliminate any chance that's the problem. If it still persists I agree that you should RMA because that should not be an issue. My friend has a Fury X that does not show this problem.

That is a HUGE relief!
Also add hard drive to that list. And it is not motherboard, exactly. There isn't really anything that identifies every motherboard specifically... or is there? :p

How so... I have replaced my Hard drives & SSDs, done a full re-install, and had no trouble, Windows 10 Pro self-activated after a few minutes of being on-line.

Back on topic:

It would not hurt to call/email support for your card explain the problem and see if they can get a newer card and/or BIOS to you.
You may get lucky.

Edit: My Windows 10 pro is retail... if that is the difference.

Simply changing from RAID to non-RAID causes activation on my Win10 rig. It's a bit annoying.

Can't speak to that... have not gone to that part of the windows world... still got the raid drives going.

Just heard back from Sapphire. Just a whole bunch of crap: update my driver, try card on different computers, try different ports and etc. And finally they told me if I want RMA the Fury X the turn around will be approximately two months since they are low of Fury X stock. Well f*uck that. I am going to call their customer service again tomorrow to see if I can get someone else to respond.

For a $650 card I was expecting a way better customer service experience.

You have my sympathies. Have you tried all the fixes suggested? Including HW accelerations etc

EDIT: unrelated but my Kingpin didn't work when I installed it but it was a mobo BIOS issue. Thought I had a £700 RMA on my hands

I think the issue is that all the manufacturers have to get the cards from AMD, so Sapphire has to wait on more stock from AMD. Even though I think all the cards are actually manufactured by Sapphire...so before Sapphire can get more stock, they have to make the cards, send them to AMD, and then wait for AMD to send them back...

Oh, I just love that, lol. Sounds like bureaucratic box ticking to me.

Are you on 15.9? Try a different driver. 15.9 seems to be especially prone to this.
