Hey everyone, I am building a gaming pc for the first time and need some help deciding what memory to buy.
I have a gigabyte z97x gaming 5 mobo. I also have cooler master 212 evo cooler installed. The two memory sticks I am looking at are the Kingston hyper x fury 2X 8gb 1600Mhz sticks (original price 180 and now 100$) and the gskill 2x8gb 1866 MHZ sticks (150$ now 114$). Both are 240 pin and compatable with the mobo. I have found out that speed doesn't matter too much. The question now is which one is better for gaming and which is more better in build quality/reliability. Please answer ASAP as sale is only until Wednesday oct 7. I am leaning more towards Kingston but what do I know lol.

I am not planning to overclock

If you are not interested in overclocking your RAM, and gaming performance is the only concern. Go for whatever is cheapest and make sure it is compatible with your board/cooling clearance.

I would take the G.skill, they might be just a bit more expensive, but they can OC like hell.
I have a set of 1866Mhz and they OC and are stabile up to 2375Mhz, but normally you dont feel that, just execpt when games are loading, they just gets the job done a bit more faster.

http://techbuyersguru.com/does-ram-speed-matter-ddr3-1600-vs-1866-2133-and-2400-games?

Quite informative article about this topic.

Basically their conclusion is ram speed helps gaming performance but the improvement is negligible, and even within test errors;

even tho the price difference between basic and top notch rams are really small, but the cheaper ones still provides better bang for your bucks.

Hard drive limits loading times before ram even considered to be a factor.

I wouldn't bother - I'd rather spend on styles of the ram rather than speed.

So gaximodo u suggesting the Kingston then? I have read good reviews about it plus it's cheaper plus it looks better.

Ebo as I said I won't over clock and my Intention is gaming but that's not to say I can't spend a few extra bucks for better quality

I use a G.Skill Ripjaws set and it works as memory should. No complaints here.

just buy them when you feel the need. Ram prices go up and down every week, so just buy them when its time.

Only get the 1600MHz one if it is 1.5v and CAS9... Anything that is higher is low end silicon. 1866 should also be 1.5v, but CAS10 is acceptable.
