No video signal after AMD driver update

I had to install the latest AMD drivers to play Battlefront. After the driver install the monitor takes several minutes to come up and the light blinks during this time. I can force the monitor to come on by changing the video cable to the other socket on the card. Even during boot up, the monitor does not show boot up.

I updated from catalyst 13.12 to 15.7. I repeated a clean install of the drivers, but it didn't stop the error.

Any ideas how to correct this?

I would try the 15.9.1 beta drivers if 15.7.1 doesn't work:

Now there is no video. Just the blinking power light on the monitor and a ping noise coming from windows.

At what point do you lose video? Never see video or video quits as Windows should be loading?

Made sure the fan on the card is spinning?

No video period for a while. Not boot up, no windows, nothing. If I leave it alone for 30 minutes or so, the video

Oh , if you have another computer with a powerful enough power supply, I'd try it in that computer. I suspect the video card or PSU is failing (70% on PSU--graphics shouldn't cause boot to delay like you describe).

The pc is booting. I just cant see it for a while.

This started when I installed a driver. It was fine before that.

The driver doesn't load until after Windows starts loading.

Try resetting the CMOS (BIOS).
And, try resetting the monitor, if it has the option.

i would look at the cable and the screen.

i think it might just be coincidence with the driver install because as others have said, no drivers are loaded before windows. even the windows loading screen would show before the drivers load.

I tried DDU, another monitor, another monitor video cable and none worked. I think it is the PSU. I think the card doesnt have enough power to run. I need to find another PCIe card to plug in to test.

I used another video card, a new ati fire gl. Still no video at boot. It still takes 30 minutes or so for video to come on.

I am at a loss. It is either the PSU, cpu or mb.

Just from installing a video driver. Wow.

Like I said, probably only a coincidence that the something else went wrong when the driver changed.

When video does come on, what does it show? Desktop? Do the event logs show anything (e.g. a notice about something slowing down startup)?

I has fully functional win 7 when it finally has video.

If it would show me the post/boot screens I would feel a little better.

So you don't have a spare power supply to try? I think a quality 500w would be sufficient for that system.


It was suggested but did you try resetting the motherboard CMOS?

Try reseating the card? and/or cleaning the pci-e lane?

To this point, I have tried different RAM, video card, mouse, keyboard, power supply, network card, dvd, etc,. I have reset the MB bios to the backup bios, flashed the MB bios and flashed the video card bios. Everything except cpu and motherboard. I have even formatted the SSD and installed a clean windows 10 pro.

There is still no video or 5-10 minutes. 1 out of 5, I will see the post and boot screens. Otherwise the PC works fine when the video shows up. Freakin crazy.

Anyway to test the CPU without a swap out?

It has two PCIe x16 slots, have you tried both slots? Power supply was my #1 guess and since you've tried a different power supply, I think the motherboard would be the next most likely culprit.

No I get video when windows comes up. A minute or so. Nothing has changed, except I get video quicker. Still no video of the post or boot screen.

I've only seen that particular problem with NVIDIA cards through a KVM. NVIDIA wouldn't pick up the card and show anything unless the KVM was switched to it through POST. It would pick it up and stay up after Windows loaded. I've never had that issue on AMD cards.

I think that's a pretty sure sign something broke in the motherboard. I couldn't tell you how or what but different PCI Express slots shouldn't act differently.

I agree that it is the MB. It is useable, so i dont have the scramble to order parts. If it holds together until black friday. Maybe i can find some deals. I will upgrade with an i5-xxxxk, new MB and RAM.
