Looking to buy parts to build a new computer.
Looking to spend roughly up to AU$1750.00
Would be using it for High end gaming [CS, Rainbow Six Vegas, Battlefield 2142 etc], graphics editing [including Adobe photoshop, and Corel Paint Shop Pro X], and video editing, as well as a wide variety of mind-numbing administrative parts.

If you could please post a list of recommended parts , and approximate costs. Any help is much appreciated. :D

Intel Or AMD? ATI Or Nvidia? Are you gonna Overclock? Are you wanting an entire system? ie, Monitor, keyboard, mouse and all?

Intel no question.
Not sure. This is the sort of stuff I'd like advice on.
Probably.
No, that was just the PC itself. I'll sort the rest out myself.

Not sure about the Hijack logs, You'll have to ask a Mod or someone Where you should put them..
As for the system, If your gonna spend that much on just the box. Your way out of the relm of my Experience..I'd say go with one Of the Quad core CPU's , But I'd wait a little longer to buy a video card. ATI and Nvidia both should be offering up the latest in DX10 stuff soon.. ATI will have the R600, Nvidia already has the 8800 out, Which I'm sure is a great card... I jsut went ATI on this build, Not sure I'm Completely happy... I'm thinking of going 8800 GTX soon, Just to see... ANyway.. I'll dig around a throw a few Ideas out... But If you are gonna Clock, INtel is the right choice.. Get back with you in a sec..

hey frog,

check out msy.com.au. They have some really cheap stuff there, if I were you I would go for:

asus p5b deluxe 250
e6600 300
2 gig OCZ 800mhz 350
8800gts 320mb leadtek 440
silverstone 750w 245 http://www.pccasegear.com.au/prod4754.htm
Antec 900 case 215 http://www.pccasegear.com.au/prod4228.htm
cpu cooler- cm gemini 70 http://www.pccasegear.com.au/prod5084.htm
fans and accessories 100

$1970 aussie

That would be a kick ass system, if you wanted to save a few dollars you could go for a cheaper case, cheaper ram, and cheaper CPU. You may also be able to find that video card cheaper, I have seen them new for 400 around the place... Try not to be to skimpy on the psu though, get the best one you can possibly afford, I have seen to many systems become cripple because of the psu choice...

Q6600 $535, A 680i Mobo Either Gigabyte or EVGA maybe $250ish, 150gb Raptor$150ish, a few Gigs of DDR2 800 RAM$200-$300, and either 1 or 2 8800GTX's $500 or so should put you at the top part of the food chain for around $1500, leaving room for the Drives and b.s...

We are in Australia, prices are MUCH more expensive. Example, 8800GTX is $750, Q6600 is $700. Thats already $1450 :p

Definately an MSY job for a heap of those parts mate.

Also with regards to the Hijackthis logs, the software forum is probably the best place for them. Just make sure you make the Thread title clear and it should be all good :).

Btw are you guys missing the monitor? Or did our aussie friend already have one?
If not id suggest minimum 19", possibly 21/22" if he can afford it. Samsungs are good :).

Yeah, although from what i gather, he wants to spend $1750 for the whole lot (inc. monitor, etc)

Thats why i left it at around $1450. So for $250 he can get a 19" LCD and $50 for keyboard/mouse

No probs man, it is an american forum, so its second nature to think its in USA ;)

Think your right, I'd bet the system in my specs would be close to that price range.. E6400 on P965-DS3 with the X1950XT <-- which I'm not sure I like the Video card yet... But anyway.. I know the DS3 is a good performer and Clocks well.. I've had this chip over 3.0Ghz several times, just playing...

Yeah, your system IS basically what he is after :)
Id say 8800GTS>X1950XT, but then i wouldnt recommend the DQ6/P5b deluxe (crossfire not SLi)

Out of curiousity, why Crossfire and not SLI? I'm thinking of an upgrade myself...
And as far as 8800 or 1950XT....Go 8800 hands down...I dont know how bad it beats my card, But I know it will, easily. And its DX10 for whatever thats worth at this point... also Frog, I think one of the guys has already mentioned Silverstone for the PSU, And I have to second that...I just bought the one in my specs a month ago...And I have to say that Silverstone has my business from now on...The quility is incredible, I went with the Modular model DA-750 .. It was $189 at the time.. But it has TONS of power (60amps) and is very futureproof with the connections it has...

I wrote it out wrong :)

I meant that if he goes with the 8800GTS (which i recommend as well), then there is no point getting a DQ6 or P5B Deluxe because the DQ6 and P5B Deluxe are both crossfire, and what good is crossfire if he is getting an nvidia card (8800GTS) :p

Thanks for all the help guys. To clarify- I just meant the box, excluding monitor, keyboard, mouse etc, although it does include a case and cooling equipment. That said, $1750 is the maximum price, and I'd like to save as much as possible without limiting the system.
Yes, I am Australian, and yes, things are quite backwards here. I said AU$, so I didn't feel I needed to post a location. That was my mistake for not clarifying.

And as for the HijackThis log, I'll head over to software.

Thanks for everything guys, you've been great.
I'd love some different opinions from other people as well though :)

Here is my suggestion. I'm not going to convert to AU$, but I think it's in you range:

Gigabyte p965-DS3 $120 US
Core 2 Duo E6420 $190 US
2 GB GSkill DDR2 800 (micron chips if you research) $140 US
150 GB WD Raptor $200 US
8800 GTS (320mb version will be fine) $300 US
Corsair HX620 modular psu $170 US
