Anyone have any luck with this ? Windows appears to boot normally until the screen with the little dots on it. Then it goes black , stays that way for a minute and finally logs on. I`ve already googled this and all the answers boil down to two solutions - disable fast startup and change your graphics driver. Neither rly helped for me tho it did seem to be graphics card related.

Awaiting more expert suggestions from TPU !

Try using the "Verbose Boot Messaging".

They have a couple of options to try... the one in quotes that is the registry entry can be left on and should add any time to your boot or shutdown time.

Quote from website: Use Verbose Boot Messages to Troubleshoot Windows Startup Problems

Enable Verbose Service Startup/Shutdown Messages
Windows loads up the drivers first during the black screen portion of the boot process, but then once you are looking at the regular login wallpaper screen, it is loading up services in the background. To troubleshoot this part of the process, you’ll have to flip a registry switch.

Also, which A/V and firewall are you using?
You may want to try a delayed start for them and any other malware checking apps.
I could, also, be another piece of software or driver that is loading and not allowing the others to access to a resource until it finishes... you will need to play around with that one and experiment.

Was this an upgrade from W7? I had the same problem on my notebook. So I booted into Safe Mode then from an elevated command prompt, I ran sfc /scannow and that helped but sfc found some things it could not fix. So I ran: dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth then ran sfc /scannow again and the errors found were fixed. I rebooted and was happy to see it booted quickly without any delays on a black screen. :)

The program said that it corrected several errors. I think the problem was graphics driver related. There`s a statement on the ATI website that it`s a known issue.

I had this issue with my wife's laptop last week. Took about 15 minutes for it to finally show the desktop. From my understanding is it was an issue with the last windows update interfering with the GPU drivers. I updated the Intel IGP and the problem went away. However I do know if you are running bitdefender it also had a boot issue this past week. They updated it also but you need to restart the computer to activate it. Hope that helps.

This happened to me today because the all mighty windows 10 auto update decided it was time to update my graphics card drivers. :shadedshu:
But my black screen only lasted 3 min, any longer and I think I would have thrown the laptop out the window
