My first CPU not bought in a pre-built (Athlon 1700+) was underclocked for about a year until I read the MB manual that the FSB defaulted to 100MHz and had to be manually changed to 133. Then came the conductive ink pens and tape to jumper traces... then the single stranded copper wire from a phone line to jumper pins for voltage settings and trying to fool the MB that it was a mobile chip for the extra multipliers. I lapped the NF2 chipset (before they were the bare die) eventually on the next MB in the effort for more FSB speed. I did some brave and stupid things back in the day for overclocking, now it seems a bit more boring.

I became a member back in 2006 when I just bought an acer aspire PC with a pentium 4-630 and ati X300

It came with a good CPU cooler though and a foxconn psu.

need a vague idea on what the subject might have been, it's harder now with these forums where for older members it needs a keyword if they have more than 1000 posts or so, on VBulletin it was quite easy if you knew how.

My guess is W1zzard made the very first post in the forum. Either welcoming people to the new site or setting forum guidelines for posting. I once looked at the last few pages of General Hardware and there are quite a few posts from 2004. It's a bit nostalgic to look at what people were posting about back then. Man we've come a long way in tech from 11 years ago!
