Hey all,

So looking for some help with a new PC build. I have been out of the loop in terms of parts for about 5 years now ( just haven't had time to keep up to date with current hardware). Been wanting to get back into gaming, and what better way then to build a beast PC. My budget is $3000, and I can go as high as $3,500. This is excluding OS, monitor, speakers, mouse, keyboard, etc. Just the parts and the case. Would be much appreciated if you guys could help me out with a new build!

Thanks in advance!

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
Huge budget... you wont need it. :)

Need to know your monitor resolution though!!!

6700K
2x120mm AIO for the CPU - Seidon or Nepton
Z170 motherboard of your choice (you dont need anything that costs over $200)
Video card - depends on the res of your monitor... but with that budget, go 980Ti anyway.
2x8GB DDR4 3000 ram
EVGA Supernova G2 750W should cover any two GPUs and overclocking them and the CPU (sans bios modded GPus)
500GB SSD (OCZ 180 or maybe Intel 750 series - assuming your board has SFF ports for it, or just go PCIe interface on it)
Case is your choice... to subjective... I loved my Corsair Carbide Air 540.

I dont see a point to get Haswell-E/X99 stuff for what is primarily a gaming PC.

Always looking to save money! Thank you! :) I was looking at the acer predator, and really want it. So screen res would be: 3440 x 1440

If you are going to run 4K, then I would look at these:

2x 980Ti's (I like MSI Gaming or EVGA ACX2 models)

As far as the motherboard, maybe an MSI Z170 Gaming M7, or the Giga Z170 Gaming 7, or ASRock Z170 Gaming 7+...

For that price this is what I'd suggest. Just so you know, you don't need water cooling no matter how much other people tell you, though if you do want to get it, that's up to you. If you want more storage, it's in your budget. Wait until the i7 6700 goes back down in price, some vendors are just out of stock right now. But this is pretty good price per performance, other than the overpriced mobo I've suggested, but with you're budget I don't see why not. If you want to save some money there there are plenty of cheaper alternatives for around $150.

With two 980Ti's I'd swap the 750w PSU for a 1000 watter. There's a few 980 TI's that are pulling a bit over 400 watts.

I agree, I'd suggest at least an 850w psu, 1000w would be optimal since it leaves plenty of room for overclocking and whatnot, but I think 850w would also get the job done.

Hmmm, I would actually suggest going with 5820K X99 with that kind of budget. Sure it's a waste now, but I don't think it will be in the future, and it's not much more than an i7 6700k system. Alternatively, I would just stick with an i5 6600K.

I will honestly tell you that investing in peripherals make a bigger difference than spending 3000$ over 2000$ etc. I will always stick to IPS monitors from now on, investing in an awesome chair is really great, not afraid of spending 200$ on mouse and keyboard, headphones, microphone... Hell, lighting in your room (I went with Philips Hue lights). Don't have tunnel vision in the desktop, make sure your whole setup is great too. I'll assume for now that it is.

Another thing I've started to like to invest in is a quality case and quality fans. It just gives a premium feel that beats any "gaming vibe" I used to love. Here are some parts I like :

Case, I'm partial to the Silverstone FT05 and upgrading fans to AP182s. I also like the Be Quiet Silent Base 800, but more so in medium part builds, not so much in high end ones.

CPU cooler I like the Phanteks PH-TC14PE or the Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 3, replacing the 120mm with its 135mm you could order from them directly.

PSU I really like the Be Quiet Dark Power Pro 11. Definitively over priced but acoustics and quality is great. Alternatively Seasonic Snow Silent 1050W is nice, or the RM1000i or a bunch of others are available that are amazing in that wattage range.

I agree with everyone, MSI GTX 980Ti, definitively could SLI if you want

SSD only, and while NVMe is awesome, waiting a few months for the newer generation isn't a bad idea, as you probably won't feel the speed of NVMe SSD right now except in very specific situations

Nothing to tell more about the parts that have been suggested but you really want that overpriced monitor from acer?
If you dont know i suggest to take a look at some 4k 40 inch monitor from korea and see if is worth it to spend double or triple the price .
Its a suggestion so the money is yours not mine but be carefull and take a good look around XD.

Considering the latest AMD driver improvement(look at the 980ti lightning review) the fury x is now as fast as the 980ti so you might consider that as well but you cant really go wrong with either.

Edit: oh and in case you are worried about the Fury's crossfire performance have a look at this:
http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/an-epic-fury-x-review-quad-fury-x-vs-quad-titan-x.214231/

Running a 980ti at stock is a crime. Most run 15% faster, some 20% faster. But if he doesn't touch over clocking, a Fury X would be a great choice. But if he does OC, its a bad choice.

my evga 850 watts runs a pair of overclocked 980 tis okay but i would go for more with your budget..

water cooling will help the case temps with powerfull heat generating cards.. more so if you go the fury x way.. and they will definitely need a 1000 watt psu..

tis quite easy to spend that kind of money if you want to.. a decent 4 k monitor will add a bit to the cost..

If overclocking, 980ti's. If not, FuryXs. IMO.

And no 4GB RAM modules go into that build. Waste of space with that kind of money.

My build:

Fractal Design Define, latest version (R5 I think currently)
Corsair RM1000x
Motherboard in the ~200 price range, I have no idea which one
6700K
Noctua NH-D15 or that BeQuiet
4x8GB DDR4, probably 2666 modules
500GB of SSD, the Crucial MX200 seems competitive
GTX 980ti x 2 OR FuryX x 2, I would probably take the Furies for the heck of it and hey look at that they're chaper than the 980ti's
Some Bluray reader/DVD writer
And probably some 2TB drive or other

Links? Are these bios modded? They are 250W cards with power limits on them... ~300W or less for most.

It turns out here (Sweden) the 5820k is consistently cheaper than the 6700k. By €10 or so. Motherboards are essentially the same. If this is true where you live, I'd definitely go that route instead.

my 850 evga psu runs my pair of palit 980 tis with no problems.. it makes no noise and dosnt even get warm..

having said that.. going by what i read i would have bought a much larger one.. he he..

these cards are well power throttled.. un-modded i doubt they would ever go over 300 watts..

converting the budget into UK pounds.. i know it dosnt work that way.. but $3000 dollars aint gonna go that far.. some "economies" will have to be made.. :)

the first "economy" i would make is to forget the 4 K monitor.. i dont think current hardware is fully up to maxed out 4 K game playing just yet.. and so called future proofing is only a dream..

Talking about this?
Yes this is the last that they have reviewed but if you take a look they tested other 3 models and have done a crazy experiment running 3 of them in portrait mode XD.
