Default mouse drivers conflicting with downloaded drivers?

Since I couldn't get help from Logitech forums, I was thinking maybe people here can help.

Here's the thing, I have a Logitech MX518 and I downloaded the Logitech Gaming Software specialized drivers for it. I changed the functions of the usual dpi buttons and only set 1 default dpi.

But the quite often it randomly changes the dpi and the buttons stop doing what I set them up to do. Worse, the mouse often gets stuck (as it changes between these modes somehow). LGS is still always set up the same way.

This problem didn't happen before Windows 10 and I have even tried many older versions of LGS which worked before and the same issues persist. The weirdest thing is that it's happening both on my laptop and desktop.

Now, I think I know what causes this. When I uninstall LGS the dpi buttons still work. So it seems like there are some default drivers Microsoft has. And I think it switches to those default drivers. But I can't seem to switch them off anyway.

Here's LGS with the 1 default dpi (this never changes):

I currently have 2 sets of drivers, but even when I uninstall the default one the problem still persists (and they come back once I unplug the mouse).

Any ideas?

Don't use the software mate it proper sucks and caused the same issues with my G500s a few days ago.

To fix my mouse so it stops reverting to the software settings i made sure i set my mouse up how i wanted it then i unpluged the mouse removed the software then pluged my mouse back in and its been ok since.

BTW i also have windows 10 so might be an issue with that but for now im blaming the software as all was fine till i decided to try it again.

Guess I'll try that. I've been using SetPoint and later LGS for years and have had no problems. And until recently it was great, because once I set up only 1 dpi I got 3 extra buttons on my mouse which I set up to use in games.

Since the problems started with win10 I just assume it's Microsoft's drivers messing up.

I tried uninstalling LGS, but it's the same issue as before. It takes some random dpi and the buttons now scale it up or down. The biggest problem is that I don't know where to change these dpi settings. They are not Logitech's.

Hmm not sure what to say then all i know is my mouse was being funny untill i removed the software but as i say i also had to unplug my mouse and plug it back it for it to use my saved setting that are stored in the mouses onboard ram.

The setting for dpi are probs the mouses default ones that would be used when you first buy the mouse and use it without software.

Okay, I think I figured it out. In the end I think the problem was not with drivers, but with the mouse itself. Since it's quite old the wire seems like it was losing connection. This not only caused the freezing but I guess it messes with the drivers so that the reset. At least that's how it seems because I turned it around and I can see how it loses light for a second every now and then.

It's W10. Have you looked in W10 Device Manager to see whether the MS supplied driver or the Logitech driver is being used?

On my W10 system I instructed Windows to only use the drivers I supply. I am using LGS and an MX518 without issue. The problem is W10, not the Logitech software.
