Favorite Motherboard Brand?

My personal favorite is ASRock followed by Gigabyte, MSI, and lastly Asus.

ASRock because it's motherboard has the best hardware features for the price they are charging. The Fatal1ty series are top notch in build quality (I'm using the Fatal1ty X99M Killer / 3.1 for my high performance build).

Gigabyte also very good build quality, but slightly less features compared to ASRock's equivalents.

MSI also very good build quality, but each motherboard are sold in various versions and with various options (wi-fi, etc) I have to enquire at each store which version they have. Very confusing and difficult to decide if the particular motherboard carried by this particular outlet is the exact one I want.

Asus branding is very strong, but they charge ridiculous prices and build quality have plunged! Even their ROG series of motherboard which is their premium series are full of quality issues (sudden death, RAM slots not working, etc). Their budget series are manufactured by ECS. My 1st (and last) MB LAN port works intermittently because it wasn't properly soldered, hence got contact issues...

Rest of the brands I'm not familiar with cause Singapore market only carried these 4 brands. I've checked out some EVGA MB but found they have weird component choices (M.2 slot but with keying for wi-fi card only, etc). Biostar, ECS, PC Chips exited (Singapore) market many donkey years ago ...

Just my personal opinions...

I'll stick with Gigabyte because I've seen more issues with Asus than any other brand, including personal experience.

EVGA aren't bad, anything after Z77 has full UEFI bios. My board though has a quasi-UEFI bios. Its just too bad that they only really make higher end boards :ohwell:

I agree. EVGA makes good boards, completely forgot about them. This is going to sound silly, but I ruled them out entirely on my last purchase only because they didn't have a PS/2 port for my Model M keyboard. :p Otherwise I'd have one now.

Can't beat their support, too.

Asrock and MSI, for their low cost, good quality and extra features.
My current Asus albeit old, is pretty good.

Been using some Gigabyte lately and they're working out for me. (my current favorite)
I have a few MSI Gaming boards that are good too.

I used to build PCs for schools and Writers years ago and they all got Intel boards, always. That worked out to be great and with very few bad boards.

+1 for Abit. I've got an IP35 Pro sitting right here. Lately though...I've been pulling out the ASUS boards. The P5E Deluxe(x48) that I picked up recently is my new favorite and will be my desktop for 2016. Didn't realize it was a Rampage Formula in disguise. I also like Gigabyte, I've now got both the GA EP45 UD3P and R. Spectacular boards.

Another ASUS I recently picked up is the P5N72-T Premium....780i, if anyone knows how to get AHCI up and running on these nForce boards...please pm me. It's the best looking motherboard I've ever seen. The heaviest too...;).

If I was buying new though...oh, wait....I never buy new.

You're right about MSI, but in the end, it doesn't seem to matter for day-to-day use. It's harder to build a more complicated product, and there are more things that can go wrong. Can't really argue against reliable simplicity. If we go with @BiggieShady 's RMA rate graph above, it makes perfect sense. I think Gigabyte's high-altitude test lab helps them a fair bit, too. ;)
This is the man I would really trust when it comes to motherboards.

A candidate for motherboard Hall of Fame! One of the greats for sure.

Yeah...she's a runner alright. Kind of wish I had the Rev 1.1 board though.

Pardon my terrible picture taking skills...:).

Although...at the moment, I'm actually smitten with the ASUS P5E Deluxe. LOVE this motherboard....the UD3P is collecting dust. :). Not for long though...;).

I plan on spending the winter playing video games and overclocking. If I have time I might eat and sleep a little too.

Best,

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
i have no fav, i used DFI, MSI, Gigabyte, ASRock, Asus with no distinction AMD or Intel (Heck i even used Intel with a Q87 and Foxconn motherboard )

for the BIOS
non UEFI : DFI
UEFI: i have to say i liked the one with my Asus Maximus VII Ranger but i am fine with the one on my Gigabyte Z170X-GAming 5 ... no issue since i use keyboard only and its equally fast as if i would use the mouse on the Asus one (mouse UEFI feels gimmicky for me ... i have no use for a click interface, but that's probably just me )

altho ... when i compare the feature of a Maximus VIII Hero (203chf) and my current Gaming 5 (179chf) ... price to price the Gaming 5 has feature you find on a Asus Z170-Deluxe (which is priced 324chf where i am)
so technically if you compare my Maximus VII Ranger (or even the Maximus VIII Ranger at the same price point) and my Gaming 5, the Gaming 5 win hands down, and the BIOS is something trivial that is used once in a while ... so not really a criteria for a mobo choice for me

side note: for motherboard i had only two RMA case, one with MSI and a KT6V 400 and one with my Maximus VII Ranger, well it was more a insurance case this one, so i don't really care about RMA or customer service being horrid (maybe i am just lucky ...)

Early on when i was building computers (mid 90´s) QDI was the brand we used in alot of builds, unless stated by the customer (430 FX, then 430TX chipset, then later 440LX and 440BX(Overclocking the legendary 300A what a blast!))
I also liked SOYO back in day and Epox (super socket 7 stuff).
Then later on ASUS and ABIT were my go to boards(think Athlon/P4 up too P35)
Nowadays i'm using MSI and so far am quite impressed :)

Ahh the memories...

For me ASUS is the shit. Though I do stick with their highest end stuff from ROG/Sabertooth range. Second most wanted alternative is AsRock. Those latest Extreme 7 boards are sick stuff! MSI looks good on paper as well though I never owned any of them.

Gigabyte is my least favorite. I had them and didn't like them AT ALL. They had buggy BIOS, quirky functions, quirky hardware components, no, just no.

The subject of this thread is kinda subjective to the platform, wouldn't you say?
Certain manufacturers excel in certain platforms. I have boards from pretty much all manufacturers spanning a 20 year period and each platform pretty much has their own 'star' manufacturer.

I'll stick with Gigabyte because I've seen more issues with Asus than any other brand, including personal experience.
That would probably be correct, seeing as how Asus has been around the longest covering more platforms and out selling all other manufacturers. They'll have more documented issues simply because of the time span and sheer volume of sales.

ASUS is my favorite. My first build was on the T2P4. Still kicking ass until today. I was able to use CPU ranging from P133 to P233MMX to K6-2 400. Hell of a board. Second ASUS board was my old pal Maximus Formula X38. Overclocked my QX9650 @ 4GHz rock solid from 2008 until this past May. Great quality. Right now using Sabertooth X99. Definitely loving it.

Used Abit boards during the AthlonXP age. Too bad they stopped making boards now. Not a fan of Asrock though, at least their ITX and M-ATX boards are shit.

Cool. Some say BIOS is non issue as it is visited once and forget (not Cadaveca for sure hehe, and not me...) but then we have FAN control, which is why I loved (not love, but loved) Abit when nobody offered custom fan curves. Lately Asus got the best bios and software by a long step. But you pay the brand. Only one poster mentions EVGA, when 4 years ago it was the hottest girl in town...
