Hey guys I've been running a pretty stressful game on my GTO and it opts out on me (crashes) after about 40 mins of playing, when I have the settings turned up fairly high(medium actually ;/). Temps are reaching 78+ and I think that may be the problem.

The question is: would it be better for me to buy an aftermarket cooler for this puppy or upgrade to a: 7900GS, 1950pro, or 1900GT. bear in mind about 160$ is all I can spend.

also, I am happy with the settings/the way the game looks up until I crash. though my fps varies from 18-33 with these settings.

how do the 8600GTs stand out in high-demand games? the 128 bit bus worries me..

here are some links to options:

1900gt: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814142084
1950pro: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102061
7900gs: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130056
1800GTO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814142067

edit: also if I did buy an aftermarket cooler, I would want one that I could switch over to a newer card when I finally get one. any recomendations?

okay, how about this question: Would a better VGA cooler (my x800 currently has STOCK cooling) be significantly (20~ degrees) better?

TBH if u got a good version of the 480 there is much that can be done to improve the card u now own! For 1 get a better cooler ,which u seem to be ok with, then try to contact dolf in the X8xx bios mod thread(see if card can flash to 16pp.) Then clock the snot out of it....my gto went from 400/490 to 560/650...lol give it a whirl b4 u buy new...just my opinion!
