What do I need to make this clean

How do you remove thermal paste that stuck in this cooler...

I've washed the heatsink under a faucet (is that ok?) to clean/clear the dust. But this thernal paste residue is tough to remove. . Do I need to dunk it in a vat of alcohol something else? Thanks...

Alcohol and a Q-Tip followed by a lint free cloth should do the trick. I wash my Xig (same model) in the sink also

Hey man ! Long time no see! You taught me also the technique of putting on and off the fan on this heatsink! Haha.

Well I guess good ol' q-tips and alcohol but some of the gunk are abit hard or very stuck should I dip the lower part of it in a bowl of alcohol? Hahaha (sorta impatient, and little free time atm)

Good to hear- still running one on my main rig

The TIM on the heatpipes may not be too easy to remove since the black coating on the heatpipes is a flat finish and porous. I wouldn't spend too much time on it, just clean it the best you can where the pipes contact the cpu.

Alright ! Thank you! Lmao cleaning it up the 1st time caused this to spread towards the heatpipe :O and I was like ohhh craaaa.... Then just said meh to heck with it I'll just make the contact point shiny and clean hahahah... But now I'm planning to give or sell it to a friend. Well I'll just explain to him this hahah...

toothbrush works fine.

Note that that wont really make your temps any worse, so you dont need to stress about cleaning it to 'new' condition.

Aerosol plastic-safe electronic cleaner (CarQuest #1040 is the cheapest I've found) and a toothbrush will dissolve it. Thats what I use when the factory blob is caked all over the place and I can't scrape.

Careful with that stuff.. The regular (chlorinated) ones will eat plastic. The non-chlorinated ones in the green cans should be ok though.

i'm still using two bottles of that stuff so old, the bottles have turned yellow and warped in the summer heat. Great stuff for thermal paste removal.

Goo gone. There's been a place in my heart for goo gone ever since it removed some thermal paste off a 9600GSO that was caked on so hard rubbing alcohol did nothing to it. Goo gone took it right off. Use it with a coffee filter, then use rubbing alcohol to clean up after the goo gone.

you miss the point on the stuff I recommend..... It digs deeper then ISO and all the other shit on the market. Plus it has a metal prep solution that really makes the biggest difference. try it and you'll see what I'm going on about :rolleyes:

I use the ArctiClean two step cleaner mentioned above and it does very well. Doesn't cost much. I think I paid around $5 for it several years ago and that's probably a lifetime supply for me as little as I use it if it doesn't go bad.

Edit: I just checked and Newegg has the kit for $7.

What the first response said - Alcohol (highest % you can get) + Q-Tips. To speed it up a lint free cloth on the big areas and you can dunk it, just try to wipe off the gunk quickly.

Don't need to get any fancier than that. I try to always keep at least 91% in the house, but 99% is the best. But 91% will work just fine - it cleaned up a AIO that sploded all over my motherboard. :ohwell:

I didn't miss it, but I prefer goo gone to Artic Clean because it's a common household item. If not already on hand, a sizable bottle of it is much cheaper than Artic Clean.
