So, I am subed FTTH triple play 10Mbps connection on beginning on Jan 2016 with unlimited data for IDR 400k (roughly US$ 30), and on Feb, my ISP started being such a d*ck by imposed FUP for 300 GB with TWICE throttling scheme. First throttling after usage beyond 300 GB is 7.5 Mbps and second throttling after additional usage of 100 GB become 4 Mbps.
So, as the title suggested what is your opinion about this?

Can you use someone else without caps? Do that. If not, the throttling is not too bad. And 300GB gets you pretty far (depending on what you do). I never use that much with my 100mb/connection, but I don't really stream or download anything.

actually, I streaming alot from PC and phone, also my sister's laptop plus her phones to download and streaming, I honestly didnt know how much slowness will be after beyond cap.
and there is no alt ISP for home consumers, because most ISPs in my area is on smaller scale and primarily serve business needs ( you know, that 1:1, dedicated, IP static stuffs cost almost quadruple for current speed that I paid for)

Then be happy they don't throttle it down to 250kb/s. HD Netflix streaming uses about 3GB/hour according to their FAQ.

Being throttled to 7.5Mbps is really nothing. I get 8Mbps on a good day here and my cap pushes me down to 250kbps, so to me that looks great (Internet in this country is still stuck in 2001 era tech for the most part). 4Mbps is still enough for a single stream. Can you not pay more per month for a higher plan?

All bandwidth plan have same FUP except for amount of data and percentage of reduced speed difference between packages.
unless you considering for 'business purpose' internet connection which is not worth the money

Most ISPs that are also cable providers are imposing these caps to discourage 'cord cutting' since streaming is what tears through data. 300GB is a number high enough that won't piss off 'web and email with a side of Youtube' customers, but is low enough that it will not even come close to supporting the streaming needs of a cord cutting family - Three or four HD Netflix streams will burn through 300GB in just a few days. Here in the states Time Warner, Comcast, and Cox are all imposing 300GB caps. There is also documented proof that the "meters" that enforce these caps are grossly inaccurate. I've also heard rumors of lawsuits, because these caps were also imposed on existing customers, not just new customers and those who change service. Existing customers are supposed to be grandfathered under the old plan without caps. Not sure if that's the law in India.

Like has been said your throttle speeds aren't that slow compared to some others. If you had an alternative with unlimited I'd say switch but because you don't I'm not sure what you want to hear from us.

Find a new ISP if you can via that. Avoid major telcos or cable companies if you can. I've been with DSLextreme for 15yrs now. Small local ISP that resells the packages from the telco. They are more than DSL now but the great thing about them always has been that I never have to deal with Verizon who owns all the lines in the area (now Frontier). See, Verizon won't deal with people well and does a lot of dick moves. So if I want something done on the lines, I go through DSLx and they go right around all Verizon's support channels and talk to the area bosses who can actually get something done.

I'd like to go Fios and it is in my area but Verizon has treated us like trash for so many years now...no way I'd go it. Then Cable companies around here aren't much better. If I ever had to move I'd really miss DSLx. They've gone above and beyond so many times now over all these years. When Verizon would say no, they'd work out a deal and make it happen. Rather happy Frontier is taking over. Can't be worse that Verizon at the moment. Maybe Frontier will let DSLx resell Fios again. Another dick move Verizon did. They opened Fios up to resellers early on. DSLx offered it for maybe a few months. Then they closed it and forced all DSLx's customers to switch to Verizon if they wanted to keep Fios. There was no way they could go back by then, the copper lines had been removed.

Nothing you can do... seems everyone uses data caps now. My ISP never used to. We get 200GB/month. Best guess is it's there to discourage people from relying on the internet for entertainment (streaming) and to curb piracy. Good thing for me there is a library nearby...

LOL @ "curbing piracy"... It serves no purpose except to discourage cord cutting - and it is a clear violation of Net Neutrality.

Think about it... someone who uses torrents to download a lot of games, movies, tv shows etc all that data use will pile up quickly.

Except they don't care about that. They are doing it specifically to prevent people from cutting the cord - because netflix alone burns 4GB per stream per hour (4K streams burn 11GB per hour!), times 3-4 streams for your average family - and a LOT more people are going to Netflix, Hulu, and the network streaming sites where they can watch the new series episodes the day after - than there are people using torrents. They know they are losing business due to their bloated all-or-nothing packages, and it is a calculated move to interfere with that loss. Notice who's capping.. Time Warner, Comcast, and Cox - the three biggest cable companies who all have dismal customer service records and who are all hemorrhaging customers to cord cutting . I have fiber from the local mom and pop telephone company.. No cap here!

This sounds about right, being on Time Warner for a long time with no other choice in my area, we actually have to buy their best plan to not get throttled constantly. Best plan only being 50 megabits as well, which is honestly not that great for what the household does. On any lower plan, we would speedtest our full 30-40 megabits per second, but we would go into certain games or even services and great crazy latency spikes that magically disappear when we upgrade. (Tested twice now, after the contract ended first we dropped just to see, two days later we went back and it was fixed again. Time Warner says they have no idea, that it isn't routed any differently, uh huhhh)

I don't disagree with what you're saying, just pointing piracy out as another potential reason, even if it's not the biggest reason.

We can't afford cable TV either, but we did use Netflix and Hulu for a while... until it ate up all our data. We can either pay them extra money for more data, or find a way to avoid using the data altogether. For us, renting DVDs is a good way to keep entertainment in the house without blowing through gigs of data or paying out the ass for cable (which, in the face of streaming services, is horribly inconvenient anyway). Even though it's a bit cumbersome, we still get to see most of what we want to see.

300GB gets approx 440 movies at 699MB each ... yeah, 300GB isn't going to curb piracy. Nobody is watching 110 movies/week because there aren't 220 hours in a week. You guys must be streaming HD video with multiple users.

Of course that assumes you're satisfied with 700MB compressed to hell rips (which I personally can't stand, they look like shit on a 65" TV :D). So lets figure a more realistic 10-15GB per movie, and it STILL gives you 20-30 1080p HD movies per month.

A cord-cut family of four, with two parents, a kid, and a teenager will be using simultaneous Netflix and Hulu streams for several hours a day (times 4GB/hour/stream). Then figure maybe mom runs streaming music like Slacker/Pandora/Google Music in the background while the kids are out, which can burn as much as 5GB per 24 hour period (much more if she puts on a Youtube playlist). Then maybe she or dad works from home and uses remote desktop/Teamviewer, or does teleconferencing.. 300GB really does not go far.

Like I said I have 50/10 fiber from our local telephone company and there is no cap - and it's not even CLOSE to the fastest available from them.. They offer 100/250/500Mbps, and gigabit as well, but they're brand new expensive symmetrical packages and I can't justify the cost. They've smashed the local cable co (another mom and pop, which only offers up to 50Mbps) so until they get some competing packages to drive the prices on the higher packages down I can't even threaten to leave lol.
